Rice calls Iraq worthy investment

STATE DEPARTMENT -- Even though it's been more difficult than expected, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Iraq is "worth the investment" in American lives and dollars.

Rice told The Associated Press that America can win in Iraq, even as President Bush is under pressure from the public and members of Congress to change course in Iraq.

The war has claimed the lives of more than 2,950 American troops and already cost more than $350 billion with another $100 billion for Iraq as well as the war in Afghanistan.

But Rice said it's not a matter of money. She said Iraq is worth the investment because it could emerge as a stabilizing factor and create what she calls "a very different kind of Middle East."

In Baghdad today, U.S. military officials in Iraq are reporting the deaths of five American troops from combat wounds.

Iraq is ALL about corporations stealing our tax dollars, stealing oil and keeping the criminal Bush a "war time president" to avoid criminal charges. Iraq was lost the moment BushCo invaded a sovereign nation, it was based on lies and filthy fucking neocon republican greed!

Iraq will go on for years...there's still billions of our tax dollars and lots of oil to be stolen....now with the call for 70,000 more troops we have to wait...we will be there for years.

14. No sale, Condi
The "investment" has gone sour and the rhetoric is stale.

Some say this would have worked if it had been done right, but I have my doubts about that. There was no altruism here, as the people in the Bush junta would have us believe. This was about spreading Iraq's wealth over Wall Street, not about spreading democracy to the Middle East. As long as the Iraqi people knew that -- and they know it -- the one thing they could agree on is that foreign troops have no place on their soil. Eighty percent of them want US troops gone; I am inclined to agree with them.

We cannot blame Bush and the neoconservatives for the civil war in Iraq. That probably would have happened when Saddam passed the scene, however that blessed event had come about. What Bush and the neoconservatives can be blamed for is not knowing or not caring that there would be a civil war in Iraq. I'm no Iraq expert, but I knew it.

These people want more money and more lives? After they've lied us? After they succeeded in fucking up Iraq even after ousting from power one of the bloodiest tyrant of modern times? After spreading democracy through the dictates of colonial-style governor general who decreed Iraq's markets open to foreign investment? After spreading democracy through murder and torture? After spreading the rule of law by eliminating Habeas Corpus and the Bill of Rights?

Not only would no other country want the kind of democracy Bush and the neoconservative have furnished to the Iraqis, but no other country would want the kind of democracy that is Bush's America.

The only solution is for US troops to leave Iraq and for Bush, Cheney and those who serve them to leave power.

15. Believing your own lies is only convincing to yourself
Condi is incompetent, pure and simple.

The war and her ignorance at the pre-9/11 warnings puts her firmly in the FAILURE category. She needs to be removed at the same time Bush and Cheney are extracted.

18. "couldn't have known"

Reflections on Ms. Rice's judgment:

Commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste, a Democrat, challenged Rice in particular on a briefing given to the president on Aug. 6, 2001, at which a document was presented entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

"To the best of my knowledge, Mr. Chairman, this kind of analysis about the use of airplanes as weapons actually was never briefed to us," Rice said. "I cannot tell you that there might not have been a report here or a report there that reached somebody in our midst."

Rice said it contained no specific threats explaining, "it did not warn of attacks inside the United States. It was historical information based on old reporting."

During her opening statement, Rice read some of the "chatter" that the United States picked up during the spring and summer that raised alarms about a possible attack: "Unbelievable news in coming weeks." "Big event ... there will be a very, very, very, very big uproar." "There will be attacks in the near future."

"Troubling, yes," Rice said. "But they don't tell us when, they don't tell us where, they don't tell us who and they don't tell us how."

Edited on Sat Dec-23-06 08:31 PM by Kerry2008
Silly Bush Administration puppet.

'Investment' worth the cost of thousands of innocent human lives and the billions upon billions of dollars wasted? Hardly.

What have we done? Set up a shaky government, created a terrorist breeding ground, and helped increase hatred that lead to Iraq's Civil War?

Oh, by the way...What ever happened to that War on Terror I used to hear so much about?

Osama Bin Laden. Where is he anyway?

And how about those folks in Iran and North Korea?

What a mess....

I want to scream every time I hear one of 'them' say the words 'win' or 'victory' in the same sentence as 'Iraq'. How stupid do they think Americans are?? It is so obvious that we have already lost...BADLY. The best we can do now is minimize the damage.

what is at stake. The US. must control the oil flow in Iraq and that is what the search for wmd's was all about to begin with, to end up with US. bases in Iraq, you know, like germany - Japan - S.Korea!! end of story!
