Could the Malaki government in Iraq survive outside the us protected green zone?
if all the elected officials in Iraq were made to live and survive outside of the u s protected green zone we would all have a clearer picture of Iraq's future. lets move all the elected officials out among their people. then we will see what you really created in Iraq Mr bush.

training the Iraq army is a bush requirement for success. in the united states army i was trained and able to perform my specialty skill in 16 weeks. why is this army taking so long to train?

1. That's a terrible idea...
Unless you want to see every single elected official and their family killed.

2. if they are killed, is it a real government?
if they live then it may be legitimate. lets find out, we can not protect them forever.

3. If 90% of Iraqis want a peaceful, united government...
and 10% are the murderous fuckheads who want to kill everyone associated with it, should we let them ruin it for the rest of the country?

And please name me one country where the head of state lives among the people with no security measures or protection. Every country has their own "green zone" to some degree. The Whitehouse has TONS of security, even friggin snipers on the roof!

5. Yes, and the US is very much unlike the Middle East.
It's a violent and volatile part of the world. Different cultures and political situations entirely. The US is violent too, but it's drug related, not politically motivated violence.

Kennedy was assasinated, did that mean the US govt. didn't "work"?

7. The Scandinavian countries come to mind
I believe they have the most publicly accessible government officials - including lawmakers and administrators. Also I think it was Sweden where a Prime Minister was killed on the street a few years ago.

6. I don't know. Seems unlikely. Overall, it seems the Iraq situation will be resolved by Iraqis,
one way or another. Whether they end up with a tri-partite federalism, a "satellite" state of either Saudi Arabia or Iran, a fragile balance of warring factions under a central government, or something else altogether - it seems our role is increasingly superfluous to the nuts and bolts future - outside the Green Zone, as you say - that they will continue to live in.
