reporting from the polls in Northern Virginia.....been standing
outside a major polling place in Alexandria VA, from 6 AM to 10 AM today.....

IMO, it'll be a major victory for KERRY !!!!!
landside for Kerry....GO VIRGINIA !!!!

of all the people coming into the poll this morning...only TWO told me that they were voting for someone besides Kerry...one for dean, one for clark.....

there were NO campaign people handing out literature for clark or dean (both of whom had a small sign posted)...nobody else even posted signs....

1. Holy shit...
That's good for us if Kerry wins the Primary.

Shedding that unwinnable in the South baggage is a damn good thing.

7. turnout has been slow, but steady....the early birds were people
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 10:40 AM by amen1234
on their way to work...then just a steady stream, people walking over, a older woman arrived in a cab, seniors, a small group of Iranian-Americans (12 all together), Veterans, middle-aged women...three people that I knew, two guys that I encouraged at the Metro stop last night (where I handed out campaign materials)....lots of rage against the shrub....people walking from the parking lot with thumbs up for Kerry (I was holding my Kerry sign)...and expressing total OUTRAGE about bush*...

the 'simmering majority' is coming out against the shrub....and this is the beginning of the end for bush*....WE THE PEOPLE are STANDING UP.....

the Alexandria Democratic Committee showed up, my elected Congressman, Democrat Jim Moran, and the Alexandria Election Commissioner....free coffee and pastries were provided by local bakeries for us hard-working KERRY supporters....

inside the polls, when I went to vote, the election officials told me that the turnout was normal for a non-Presidential election...although they were very sad that NO YOUNG people were showing up...and talked specifically about that missing demographic group....

5. In Loudoun turnout is very low
but Loudoun is a VERY conservative area. I hope turnout is high regardless of who the winner is. Since you seem to be a veteran of VA politics, let me ask you what the caucus system was like here last time around. I moved here from Iowa. Did you folks do the platform and viability stuff that Iowa does?

6. Looks like I'm gonna have to put away my Dean sign soon
And the bumper stickers etc;

I work Mondays in our local Dem HQ,in Florida, and I had to order more stuff from the Kerry and Edwards campaigns yesterday. We started out with a lot of Clark stuff, and we still have a lot of Clark stuff. And about half the Dean material is gone.

It sure looks like the writing is on the wall, but I'll stick with Howard 'til he quits.

9. That's great but...
I voted in Farifax County...and I was the only one there voting. I got there about 9:30 and I was only the 82nd voter. Course I live in Tom Davis' district (ugh!)
