Biden Vows to Fight Any Iraq Troop Boost
http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2006/12/26/ap3282476.html

Incoming Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Joseph Biden, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, said Tuesday he would oppose any effort by President Bush to increase U.S troops in Iraq as part of a new war strategy.

Biden also announced he has summoned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to testify before his committee next month to discuss the administration's new plan for Iraq as soon as it is made public.

The Delaware Democrat took advantage of a quiet holiday week to draw attention to his own proposal for Iraq, which includes beginning a drawdown of U.S. forces and finding a political settlement among the various ethnic factions there.

Biden has spoken candidly of his desire to run for president and has made repeated visits in the past year to early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire. But he is trying to find room on a crowded stage of Democratic contenders that includes Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois.

1. The Dems EN MASSE must not only fight a surge
they must end the war tout de suite by cutting off funding, their only leverage.

3. Biden and Kucinich are on the anti-surge train. Who else will get onboard?
Who will be left behind? Who will triangulate the surge?

5. Kerry and Feingold was on it before it was called "surge"
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 09:55 PM by karynnj
Kerry said that McCain's plan of adding troops was "dead wrong" and he mentioned that again in his OP-Ed in the WP. Like Feingold, he has re-iterated the need for a deadline to get out.

Kennedy and Reed is also against the surge. (Many of the Democrats were suppose to be leaning towards a stronger withdrawal movement after the ISG before the "surge" was an issue. Lieberman, McCain and Graham were the ones who asked about more trrops when Abizaid was before the Armed Services committee. Bayh was specifically against it. (I can't remember what the otehr Democrats said - but know they did NOT speak in favor of it.

7. Chris Dodd is the other Democrat that spoke up against Bush's surge
You are right in all counts, and had the House gone along with John Murtha, and the Senate with Kerry/Feingold troop withdrawal resolution, we wouldn't be going with this PR charade that Bush is doing of "consulting" with everyone, when we all know he already decided on having his Last Stand.

8. I can't believe I missed Dodd -
from his comments his recent trip seems to have had a major impact on him. I can't wait to hear the SFRC hearing that he - Kerry, Feingold, Boxer, Obama, and Webb are all on in addition to Biden. (I think Menendez is too - but am not sure.)
