Correction: Schwarzenegger breaks leg waiting to ski
No, it wasn't a big macho ski accident taking some complex terrain or a mogul, he fell over and tangled himself in his ski pole while standing around waiting to ski.

Accuracy: it's our friend.

1. Really? No kidding?
I figured all along that it was a torque-related fracture.

Just twisted a few splinters off the femur.

I have fractured my femur and when I read that he had been flown back to CA I thought that it was a minor break.

5. Yep
http://www.theberries.ns.ca/archives/osteo-steroids.html

http://courses.washington.edu/bonephys/opsteroid.html
Excerpt:
Corticosteroids cause osteoporosis and fractures in a high percentage of patients. There is a dose-dependent effect, which is difficult to define because of varying durations at each dose. The beneficial effects of steroids on the underlying disease may partially offset the detrimental effects on bone. Because the effects are so variable and can be clinically severe, patients embarking on long-term steroid treatment should have bone density monitored, and measures taken to
try to preserve bone.

10. I was a speculating this on an earlier thread....
Osteoporosis. Must be pretty bad when a simple tangle breaks a femur. He's going to get one of those nasty collapsing spines like my dear Grandmother had...every time she moved she shattered bone. It was quite painful.

Don't think men are immune from the affect of osteo, most people think of it as a women's disease.

Arnold blew his wad in the 70s, now he's paying the price for vanity.

24. Gonna have to diagree with you here.
Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory drugs. They are the exact opposite of the steroids which Arnold was known to have used.

6. Unlikely, unless
he has a real bone density problem. Hard to do that much damage to a femur that way. Hmmm ... wonder if steroids leech calcium out of the bones???

8. Apparently so

http://courses.washington.edu/bonephys/opsteroid.html

Corticosteroids have several adverse effects on bone metabolism.

* Direct inhibition of osteoblast function
* Direct enhancement of bone resorption
* Inhibition of gastrointestinal calcium absorption
* Increases in urine calcium loss
* Inhibition of gonadal hormones

16. Wrong kind of steroids ...
Arnold used anabolic steroids, not corticosteroids like prednisone.

"The accident happened as Schwarzenegger was gearing up for the last 200 yards of a run on Bald Mountain Saturday. His pole got caught in one of his skis and he fell."

According to the AP:

All Steroided out...

----- On Edit:

I just wish to hell he'd done it when a number of good bills were waiting his signature (and got his veto!).

Bustamonte could have signed them into law while aaaanold was out cold!!! Opportunity missed...

13. The funny thing is the chairlift in which it happened has to be the easiest ever
to load onto. The car actually detaches from the cable and literally crawls to the passengers.
