I hope this isn't another dupe but I am aghast. This story tells about McCain's push for the surge of troops in Iraq backfiring on him. Here is something he is telling folks in private:

On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that McCain's troop push was "personal."

"John McCain's public certainty about Iraq masks a more private and potentially wrenching connection," Elizabeth Williamson wrote. "If more troops go there, as McCain hopes they will, his youngest son could be one of them, taking his place in a line of family warriors that is one of the longest in U.S. history."

As someone who lasted through the war on Bosnia with a family member there, I can only tell you there is no contempt deep enough for me to hold against McCain, hoping his son goes to this asshole of a war. He is beyond the pale.

I remember people on this board once hoping he would be a candidate for the dems in the last election. Amazing, this jerk.

And so are members of McCain's "inner circle," as reported by Newsweek writer Holly Bailey:

But Bailey concluded that, despite unfavorable signs, "some members of McCain's inner circle are convinced the position could actually work to his advantage, reminding independents of the maverick they fell in love with in 2000."

I've been watching (with a great deal of derision) McCain's position on this since he first vocalized it. It's such a loser position. Whatever is going on in his head to make him want to offer this as a solution?!

I think, bottom line, that he really is just as out of touch as his evil cohort, george bush.

4. That's just SICK!!
I have two children--and I can't even FATHOM how depraved, deluded and disconnected
I would have to be--to wish that they could go to Iraq.

I understand someone wanting their child to serve their country. I also understand
a parent wanting a child to follow in their footsteps. However--to wish that your
own flesh and blood could be sent to a lie-based, perverse, failed, neocon game
in the desert--and possibly die for NOTHING--is revolting.

That is so fricking sick, it's beyond the pale.

There is something really, really wrong with that man.

9. This man is mentally ill. It is very similar to the mentality of a parent
telling their children to be suicide bombers and die as a martyr

what a jerk

10. Reminds me of Henry Gibson's song "Two Hundred Years" from "Nashville":
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 07:06 AM by no_hypocrisy
I pray my sons won't go to war,
but if they must, they must,
I share my faith in our country's motto
and in God I place my trust.
We've may have had our ups and downs,
our times of trial and tears
But we must be doing something right
to last two hundred years.

Henry Gibson speaking at the end of the song, "Well, that was a pretty good rehearsel. Now let's try it again with a little more religious fervor . . ."

12. You people are hypocrites
Every day people are posting here that if Bush wants to increase troops, then he should send over his daughters first. Personally, I can't stand McCain for plenty of reasons, but I can't fault him here. A lot of times Republicans are only on the right side of issues when it affects them personally. I think that McCain is wrong about increasing troops, but he should be applauded for not backing away only because his son would be jeopardy. First we claim that the people who are supporters of this war should risk their own children, but then we bash McCain when he does that. I can't stand Republican hypocrites, but I will call out hypocricy when it occurs on our side as well.

14. really? I am against ANYONE'S kid going, not just dem or poor
or whatever. McCain is a fucker. Have someone in a war recently and see if you don't agree. If a country goes to war, it better be for more than extending your family's service streak. He's fucking sick in the head.
