Sen. Johnson improves after brain surgery: aides
Reuters
Thursday, December 28, 2006; 5:23 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson, whose brain surgery fueled speculation about upcoming Democratic control of the U.S. Senate, has improved and is being taken off sedatives, aides said on Thursday.

The statement, released on Johnson's 60th birthday, said he remains in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital after an emergency operation on December 13 to stop bleeding from a malformation of blood vessels in his brain.

"Senator Johnson's overall general medical condition has improved and he is gradually being weaned from the sedation," said neurosurgeon Vivek Deshmukh. "He is opening his eyes and is responsive to his wife."

2. CNN just announced this...
...after using their "breaking news" music from the first Gulf War and I have to admit, I thought the worst. Glad to hear he's improving.

9. the Senate remains Dem by 50 to 49 - A Senator's rehab has lasted 4 years with no votes
on anything in the past, so "staying alive" is all he need do for his party as he focuses on getting Healthier,

6. Oh my god I didn't realize that. How much more convenient do things
need to get for Bush/Cheney and the Republicans?

Dont tell me this is luck. I don't want to hear it.

Makes me sick to even think about it.

8. Not true.
Even though he may be absent for the critical leadership vote, the Dem majority is intact. There is no tie. Darth will not get to vote. It will be 50-49. Quorum having been established and a simple majority of those present voting yea, Harry Reid is the new Senate Majority leader (so long as Joementum keeps his word).

7. Lastknown... are you REALLY sure about that?
I haven't heard that anywhere before now..

They've talked about how Senator Biden was out for 8 months following his brain surgery.. they've talked about how Democrats take over in another week or so... but I haven't heard ANYONE say that the thugs stay in power because Tim Johnson is out temporarily.

You sure????
