I Feel Sorry For John Edwards. I Really Do.
He had no way of knowing that Ford would die, and have over a week of media headlines, AND then saddam is hung too.
This is a serious post. I like John Edwards, but what's he gonna do now?

3. This will be a good test for him.
Running for election is like a game of "Survival" It's a make or break time for him. He's a former trial lawyer so I think he will overcome this one unlucky turn of events.

4. It's a long time til the primaries start.
He'll still be a candidate when these stories blow over in a week or two.
I wish Edwards nothing but the best. He seems like a really decent guy.

5. In the end, does it matter?
All that matters is how he gets his message out in IA, NH, SC, and NV. Not whether the people in DC, Chicago, LA, and NY hear about his announcement.

13. LOL! That misunderstands Politics 101.
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 12:09 AM by Pithy Cherub
DC, Chicago, LA and NY are the prinicipal funders of campaign cash and we are paying attention. The test is whether the donor base will fund and a lack of visibility right now is not a good thing for any candidate unless they have a pipeline of cash - Clinton, Obama, Gore. Money is one of the very first primaries and the media wants to see if after an announcement will the FEC filings demonstrate financial viablity.

7. When he announced last time, the news was drowned out by a hurricane...
Anyone remember that?

8. The irony is that, I think he did his announcement early to take advantage of a slow news period.
Just shows you never know.

Remember in 2003 when he did his big announcement, Wes Clark leaked that HE was going to announce and it stepped all over Edwards' event.

Poor guy, can't catch a break on the announcement thing. But at least he got one day's worth of good press.

14. It's no "thing" - I didn't criticize Clark - just stated a fact
you're reading way too much into my point.

17. He's gotten weeks of great press from Tweety
showing his College tour interview, plus other interviews, over and over during the holidays when they were on vacation and he showed repeats of Edwards.
I don't know of any other candidate that's gotten so much good media attention. I don't feel sorry for Edwards...I just hope Clark gets a good interview with Tweety. Then maybe I'll give him a little slack.

Edwards shouldn't be crying...he should be thanking Matthews from the bottom of his heart and slapping himself on the back at his good fortune.

19. And on the Day of the announcement, Oprah
replays Barack Obama's interview and really sells his book. Tweety versus Oprah - guess who won... That was the one that made me raise an eyebrow.

23. He was on Hardball again tonight, too...with Tweety saying it was
great that he's in the race. Talked about economic issues, mostly.

Of course, Tweety may turn at any moment..

10. It's all in the timing
I've noticed in life that the times you think are the best turn into sludge and the times you think are wrong are the right ones.
I have a feeling, and no bad intended, that this may be a bad omen. I cannot shake the feeling he is chasing rainbows this time. When I heard him talk about lack of experience and cited Cheney, ect. it was a direct 'borrow' from what Obama said a month or so ago on Russert I felt he was reaching. this could be bad advice but, things don't seem to tick along right. Like the website thing.
I wish him luck and hope things get better for him.

20. He still got some good press. He was great on Hardball
Friday. He's going to do OK. His Hardball appearance was very convincing. Bad timing or not, he's got the goods.
