Hagel quitting politics?
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 03:25 PM by charles t

On Omaha KMTV Ch. 3's Thursday 6pm news, Joe Jordan reported that while Chuck Hagel won't reveal his Presidential plans until January 2007 at the earliest, two Hagel insiders said Hagel:

1) will NOT run for President

2) and will NOT run for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

Hagel on Iraq:

"There will be no military victory or military solution for Iraq......

"The Baker-Hamilton commission gives the president a new opportunity to form a bipartisan consensus to get out of Iraq.

"If the president fails to build a bipartisan foundation for an exit strategy, America will pay a high price for this blunder -- one that we will have difficulty recovering from in the years ahead.

"To squander this moment would be to squander future possibilities for the Middle East and the world. That is what is at stake over the next few months."

Has Chuck Hagel had enough of the Republican Party?

1. I was just about to post this.
Very interesting. I hope this is true, because I think Hagel has/had the potential to be a strong candidate in 2008, especially if Iraq is worse then than it is now. And if he doesn't run for Senate, then that's another possible pickup for us.

2. That would be a sad day
Senator Hagel is the only Republican with integrity. A sad day indeed.

3. no way, he voted for the IWR, and look at his voting record
the only republican with integrity is Lincoln Chafee

Don't believe everything the media would like you to. They always try to idolize mccain, but they come from the same insanity

and if you examine hagels conflict of interests with voting machines, maybe you will understand why I do not admire him

8. Hagel campaigned against
Ben Nelson calling him a liberal! He is very far right but what would make him their most viable candidate is that he really is a conservative, he's not make believe. It would certainly make for interesting gop primary debates. I doubt that he could pull it off over someone like Edwards or Obama though.

4. Integrity? Isn't he the Senator that won an election
using the voting machines his company sold?

6. That's him. BUT...
I agree Hagel could be a tough prez candidate. I've found him difficult to dislike and have to keep reminding myself about the voting machines. He gives off a presidential air-- the gravitas, the studious bearing...

9. I agree...there are times...
when I've heard him speak, especially in concert with Biden, that almost convinced me he was one of the good guys. Of course, that was before I woke up to this mad, mad, world, and learned the language. Now, with very few exceptions, the entire lot appear to be of Libby's aspen nature...turning in clusters because their roots connect them.

10. Hard to read a guy's innermost thoughts but I doubt
if he has as much integrity as his policies indicate. He was head of AIS before it became ES&S and his first election, a stunning upset that went contrary to the polls, was counted on voting machines made by a company that he had been the head of. NE refused to allow the Dem a recount. Also when he came to the Senate he didn't disclose his assn with AIS, contrary to the requirements in the Senate. I doubt personally he would be in the Senate at all without ES&S (AIS).
