Edwards amazed at crowd numbers, "I went outside and stood on a chair to talk to them"
"The crowds and enthusiasm in Iowa and New Hampshire and Nevada were absolutely amazing. We never had crowds in Iowa like the one we just had until a few days before the caucuses in 2004. The crowds in Portsmouth were larger than any crowd I've ever had in New Hampshire - in the 2004 primary or the general election. There were a thousand people outside who couldn't get in so I went outside an stood on a chair to talk to them! And I was told that the crowd in Reno, Nevada - about 2500 - was completely unprecedented."

6. The dirty republicans painted him as a weasel in 2004.
Thanks Prick Cheney! Thanks Fucks News!
I think he's ready to spit their crap right back in their faces. Hope so.

3. I think it's the populist message too.
Nobody other candidate or potential candidate seems to speak for American workers quite as forcefully as Edwards. It is a no-nonsense message that is resonating.

8. Disagree. Rather, the last time Democrats dominated politics was with a populist message.
If you want, you could read Thomas Frank's "What's The Matter With Kansas?"

9. it's definitely going to be an uphill climb
I really like him and Wes Clark. I wish they could pick one another if one is chosen in the primaries. There's a couple 1000 pound elephants in the room they have to battle with. We have some great candidates, I won't complain!

11. However, W has never been president before
the gap between rich and poor has been expanded purposely by this administration - maybe Americans are awake enough for a populist who is also a straight speaking realist.

5. I like John Edwards very much
Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 04:06 AM by Syrinx
I hate his vote on the Iraq war, but he has admitted that he was mistaken. I appreciate that.

I think the guy is genuine. I think he really does care about people, no matter how many homes he owns.

He's filthy rich, but he made his fortune on his own, without any dirty dealing help from a crooked Dad, or insane cronies.

I haven't decided if he is my guy, since the field is likely to include a lot of great candidates, including Obama, Clark, and maybe Gore. (I didn't include Hillary Clinton. NOT because she's a woman.)

He's coming for a fundraiser to my area, I think on January 9th. I'm sure it will be too rich for my blood to attend, but I'll try to at least catch a glimpse of him, and maybe shake his hand.

Oh yeah, I'm a straight guy, but you have to admit he's kind of pretty. Not that that's a good reason to vote for someone, but unfortunately, that could be a factor in the general, considering how shallow the majority of the American public is.

10. Definitely
Edwards is a handsome man, not that the opinion of a gay guy is any better than yours.

Syrinx? As in the Temples of?

Peace.

14. a quick sampling of the stories from edward's first week on the campaign trail
he is getting pretty good press on his first few campaign stops. references
to "large" and "energized" crowds.

this may be an artifact of his "media honeymoon" after his announcement, or
may be a continuation of his generally very favorable MSM coverage from 2004.
