Passenger plan described as a dangerous step toward Big Brother

By Sean Holstege, STAFF WRITER

(snip)

In a letter to be sent this week to the Transportation Security Administration's top official, Rear Adm. David Stone, Lee, Kucinich and 14 other co-signers, including two Republicans, questioned the effectiveness of CAPPS II and pondered what they called threats to civil liberties.

When asked, Kucinich did not offer any ideas of how to stop terrorists boarding planes less intrusively, but questioned government motives.

"This administration has forfeited the trust of the public. They take us into a war based on a lie, now they say we're just gathering this information to see who's in the planes. Oh really? This is a breakdown of trust that goes far beyond Watergate," Kucinich said.

"There is concern across the political spectrum about Big Brother coming to town. We are rapidly becoming a national security state, where individual liberties and privacy are sacrificed in the name of fighting terrorism," he said.

I think Sean needs some polite but pointed e-mails letting him know why his spin (reflected in bold points above) is not appreciated or helpful.

It's sickening to know that as big brother moves into our government, he's busy ensuring the public perceives that Kucinich's fight to protect our liberties is tainted by his apparent lack of concern about terrorists on planes. 'Journalists' like this really make me wonder about how much it takes before people will sell out completely.

This is not just what they (Lee, Kucinich, and a bunch of other lawmakers, including 2 republicans) call a threat to civil liberties. This is widely regarded as such. Anyone with ready access to right wing opinions on this matter, please do share them.

These tests have cost us $100 Million SO FAR. If you're upset about this and agree with the letter that is being sent, please let him know.

Just a friendly suggestion. :)

Thanks for reading.

1. thanks for the heads up on this, redqueen
I agree...why is it every mention of Kucinich manages to twist and mislead people about him...when they manage to say anything about him at all?!

They must be so damn scared of him....

Peace

6. The paranoid fantasies of every conservadroid
are coming true. They're entitled to a big fat "I told you so!!" Think they'll seize the opportunity to crow? Nah, it'll make Dear Leader look bad. At best they'll blame Ashcroft. Any gratitude for Kucinich's stands against the creeping security state? Nah, he's a vegan bedwetter. Their worst nightmare has come to visit and they won't say squat because it's Dubya who unleashed it. That's what party partisanship over principle (or naked reality, for that matter) can get you.

Truer words were never spoken.

And on and on the manipulation goes.

9. I agree with K
All this security were are paying for and white powder ends up in a Senate office and knives are still coming onto planes.

They send back flights from France, Britian, etc. to feed the fear. Afterwards, they find out there was not threat. They know the passengers BEFORE they leave the ground. Why question it when they are in the air? FEAR! Many countries are saying...this is a lie just like WMD (saw it in the Wall Street Journal).

The promished federal take over of airport security only happened with the employees. The private owned (most foreign...yes this is crazy) security companies are plundering our tax dollars.

We are not safer..and promises were broken to the American people. What liars they all are.

It's obvious, we are being robbed using fear as a tactic.

12. Is this the plan that Clark was lobbying for with Cheney...
or is this another one??

Damn, so many assaults on our liberties I can't keep track!!

I keep praying that one morning I will not awake to find out that the Bushies have perpetrated another crime on our people or on the world. And I end up crying.

Thank you, Dennis, for telling it like it is!!
