Clark Says He Will Fight on in Presidential Bid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark (news - web sites) told staffers on Tuesday his campaign would move on to Wisconsin this week as the former NATO (news - web sites) commander awaited results in Tennessee and Virginia considered key to his candidacy.

In an e-mail to campaign workers, Clark said that after Tuesday's presidential primary voting in Tennessee and Virginia, "It's on to Wisconsin," which holds its electoral contest on Feb. 17.

Campaign spokesman Jamal Simmons said, "The general has always said he intends to stay in the race through Super Tuesday," the 10-state vote on March 2.

In recent days, when asked whether he would quit if he did not win in Tennessee or Virginia, Clark has only said he intends to win.

1. Great News!
Though I bet some supporters of other candidates may disagree.

2. It was made to weaken the resolve of Edwards Supporters
Neither Edwards nor Clark can move against Kerry with both of them in the race. Dean has been in a free fall so he needs to stop this before going against Kerry one on one.

But I am really really excited about the fact that Clark says he will go on! He will do very well in Wisconsin and the three primaries on the 24th, Utah, Idaho, and Hawaii.

3. Thank you, Wes
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 03:54 PM by BeyondGeography
There's no way Wes should quit after today. But watch the media scream for his head anyway if he doesn't come in second in either state.

Meantime, Howard Dean (who shouldn't quit either) gets a pass until Wisconsin and he hasn't even won a state yet (or placed a close second).

So, fuck the media. Stay in the game, Wes.

6. Daily Kos is saying Clark is planning to quit soon
Because a fundraiser in Texas was just cancelled. I'm not sure that proves anything.

15. It's true... I have heard from unnamed sources
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 06:30 PM by Professor Hoodoo
that a top Clark aide saying if the numbers in TN and VA doesn't give what Clark is looking for -- he'll quit the campaign.

(And, IMHO, that's probably why his fundraising has been slow -- didn't hit the magic number until today after a week.)

I'm sorry guys -- I really like and supported Clark too. He just didn't have the mojo to go on. I'm going to Dean -- his juju is mucho strong -- I know he will overcome his hokum and go juju'in along the road and defeat the weakest Democratic candidate - John Kerry -- he is a bad mojo, my friends. I'm getting out the nation sack and pouring it all on Howard Dean.

Time for me to ramble on....

14. Just for a laugh!
The guy on my radio station just said that Clark is campaigning with a guy who saved his life in Viet Nam, while George Bush is campaigning with a guy who took his math test for him.

I keep wondering how long this guy is going to be able to stay on the air, but so far he's doing well.
