Herb Kohl endorses Kerry for president

WASHINGTON - Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis., endorsed John Kerry for president Tuesday, a week ahead of the key Wisconsin Democratic primary.

"Having worked with John Kerry in the Senate for 15 years, I know him to be a man of great ability and character," Kohl said in a statement.

"He is a strong candidate for president and will work tirelessly as our nominee. I am pleased to endorse his candidacy for president, and I commend him to Wisconsin voters on Tuesday."

A poll taken for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and WTMJ-TV found Kerry with a large lead in Wisconsin, with 45 percent of the vote, compared to 13 percent for Wesley Clark, 12 percent for Howard Dean and 9 percent for John Edwards.
