Has Edwards introduced a plan for fighting generational poverty? |
|
I know he speaks of poverty often. I'm anxious to study his proposed solutions.

1. 1. Attend law school, 2. Become a litigator 3. Win a big case. |
|
Any other advice from Edwards would be second hand.

14. i think that you have missed |
|
the fact of his own family's poverty, and how it effected every single moment of his life. He knows whereof he speaks and it is very firsthand.
He became a lawyer, through hard work, and not a single connection or benefit. He realizes not everyone can do that, hence his elaborate and detailed and compassionate and intelligent programs to help lift milliions out of poverty.
Your initial post was glib and superficial, I'm sorry to say. That's what I'm responding to, as I think that glib, superficial comments are exactly why we are in this awful mess.

15. No, the awful mess we are in is because guys like Edwards backed |
|
the Iraq war whole heartedly. Not because of anything that I have to say about Edwards now.

16. I wish that he hadn't voted that way |
|
but this is not what we are discussing, last time I looked. I, anyway, am discussing a cultural tendency, of the MSM, the Republicans, and some others (like your post), to obscure truth by glib, superficial commentary. This tendency is, in my mind if not yours, very damaging to the proper functioning of our culture. I don't like the war, and I don't like glib superficiality. I'm not accusing you of the former, but I noticed the latter in your post, otherwise I would have ignored it.

17. He did more than vote - he COSPONSORED the IWR. |
|

He was certainly more of a wholehearted backer of the approach that was passed - vs. other versions that did not give Bush as much power - than anyone who only voted for it, particularly those who vocally preferred the other bill.
Just to set the record straight.

7. But, now, the debt load people take on to get educated means |
|
that Wall St investors end up making a huge profit on people struggling to get into and stay in the middle class after graduating.

13. Believe me I understand that... |
|
We took out a second mortage so my kids would only have 10 years left on their Stafford Loan paybacks instead of 20, and they still had to work their college summers.
Edwards wants to reward college kids who work, especially those from families not poor enough for Pell Grants.

3. Education, Singlepayer health care and having Unions providing |
|
the type of labor mobility required to assist those in need, and fair trade. Also, cutting the pork out of the pentagon and utilizing the savings to reduce the deficit and/or fund assistance to Union organizations and education.
Oh wait....that's Wes Clark's current platform!

I've e-mailed them suggesting they figure out a quick/easy way to link to JE's positions on various issues.

19. What will Edwards do about people who are unable or unwilling to |
|
make the serious effort to successfully finish a college curriculum which is in demand in the real world? I am talking about degrees in professions such as engineering, science, law, medicine, accounting etc. A degree in liberal arts in some esoteric subject usually has no job prospects. Some people are unable to even get a liberal arts degree.
In today's technological world, low skilled people can not find good jobs. So what is Edward's plan to move these type of people out of poverty?
