Democratic presidential candidates clashed Wednesday over Iraq and healthcare, an early preview of the two biggest likely flash points of their yearlong competition for the party's 2008 presidential nomination.

The long campaign's first candidate forum didn't allow the hopefuls to question one another directly. But they used their opening statements and their answers to questions from a moderator to signal that they'll use those two issues more than any others to differentiate themselves from one another -- and from Republicans.

The article mentions Dodd, Biden, Edwards, Clinton, Obama. NO mention of Kucinich.

6. I especially liked his "No Strings" ending.
I wish I had gotten to hear Vilsack. I'm interested to know what people think of him.
If the MSM (guys like Tweety) think they are going to influence my vote by only hyping their own biased choice of candidate they're wasting their breath.

2. He was. But it's not odd for the media to ignore him.
Candidates are often ignored correspondent to the amount of meaningful change their election would represent.

4. He was.
He was actually mentioned on some ABC show this morning. They used what DK said to question JE. I forget the question but it was something about the war and how a president should have foresight in re grad to the war.

5. So were Richardson, Vilsack, and Graves
I'm surprised they're not giving any ground to Richardson.

8. Thanks -- I noticed those candidates weren't mentioned either
Don't you just love the press?

7. Yes, and he did very well, made issues the issue and kept on point
Made excellent arguments for the superiority of his candidacy. I do wish he would use a different method to drive his "no strings" point home, the spinning is just too vulnerable to distracting attacks.

10. I was genuinely impressed by Kucinich
i've had my issues with Dennis. i won't elaborate. i voted for him in the 2004 primaries.

he was great yesterday.

his key points:

1. all the other candidates said they were lied to or misled or that bush deceived them. "you're looking at the one candidate who was not "misled".
2. on healthcare, Dennis made the point that all the other candidates give private commercial insurance companies a major role in the approaches they're proposing. he said that 31% of healthcare costs are going to insurance company profits and bloated CEO salaries and wasted paperwork costs. he said we're already paying for universal healthcare; we're just not getting it.
3. he also said he would cancel NAFTA and withdraw from the WTO - he said that bi-lateral trade agreements would allow us to ensure human rights and workers' rights and environmental standards were being provided for.

his closing, which i thought made a good point in a bit of a bizarre way, was that he is the candidate with "no strings attached".

that's exactly what's wrong with most of the other candidates. everytime I hear that Hillary "leads in fundraising", what I really hear is Americans being sold out to the big money boys. those aren't nickels and dimes she's collecting by selling Girl Scout cookies to the little people.

no surprise about the lack of press coverage. Ideas don't sell; celebrity sells. we don't get news; we get products. we don't get issues; we get hype. we don't get leadership; we get poll driven candidates.
