Melissa Hart Touts Tony Snow to Run for Senate from Virginia
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07054/764409-85.stm

"I'm going to give you a pep talk,'' White House Press Secretary Tony Snow pledged as a banquet hall of Republicans, sorely in need of one, welcomed him warmly last night.

After a grim election season for the GOP nationally and locally, the former Fox News broadcaster urged about 600 Republicans -- the largest turnout in recent memory for the party's annual Lincoln Day dinner -- to stand by their party principles in the face of political setbacks and the affects of a war whose unpopularity he acknowledged even as he defended its goals and promise.

Near the beginning of the evening, state Sen. Jane Orie, R-McCandless, struck a somber note as she read the roll of service members from Allegheny County who have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Alluding to the litany of names later, Mr. Snow praised their sacrifice and said of them, "That's not a roster of wasted lives ... that's a roster of people who remind us of why we should be proud.''

<snip>

In introducing Mr. Snow, the former congresswoman tried to return the favor by touting him as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Virginia after the retirement of Sen. John Warner. As he left the dinner early, rushing to a flight back to Washington, Mr. Snow offered a "Shermanesque'' dismissal of that possibility while saying he hadn't decided on a path for his post-White House career.

5. FINE, then! As of this moment I am boycotting re-runs of Sabrina the Teenage Witch
This boycott will be made easy due to the fact that I don't have a television.

On a more positive note... at least the Virginia Republican Party, neolithic as they are, seem to have gotten over their dangerous Ollie North kick. I still shudder to think how close North came to getting elected. Old Dominion GOPers really seem to have given leave of their senses.

10. I'm glad Melissa Hart has gone from Congress
From Wikipedia
Early in Hart's first term, she became the subject of an embarrassing controversy for off-color remarks made to a colleague in the House. New York Times journalist Mark Leibovich describes the exchange: "Congressional staff members related an incident in 2001, in which they recalled the freshman Representative Melissa Hart of Pennsylvania, who is white, admonishing Representative Julia Carson, who is black, that the elevator they were riding on was members-only. Ms. Carson, of Indiana, proceeded to introduce herself to her new colleague, offense taken."

And she's also a poor loser

On Election Day, Altmire was victorious by a margin of 52%-48%<7>, thus ending Hart's congressional stay. Hart initially refused to concede the race to Altmire, instead sending lawyers to the Beaver County Courthouse to reconfirm the poll numbers; she later did concede, but refused to credit Altmire in doing so, instead lending credence to the campaign advertisements that Altmire used, as well as those which were aired by other associations supporting his campaign. <8> .

When she's endorsing someone to run for Congress, it's a pretty good indication that you want to get as far away from that person as possible. Which is particularly true for Tony Snow
