http://www.barackobama.com/ for the number of donors

The money rumors are just pundit comments, with one saying she heard from the campaign that they were sure they were over $25 million.

It looks like those that feared a Hillary sweep were worrying a bit too much.

We may get a sudden fall off in contributions for one or more but I doubt it. I suspect all will get to the Iowa/N.H./Feb 5 round one in this battle.

Obama's 5,000 house parties in the last 48 hours for first quarter contributions sounds like a Dean ploy to me - the fact it was wildly successful makes one think he has the Dean infrastructure behind him.

1. Sorry, but who cares...
Don't you think that Repugs love us to focus on battles between Hillary and Obama, rather than the countless * administration scandals of the day, week, month, etc.

Let's focus on bringing some accountability to the current administration. The election is many, many months away.

Personally, I will be pleased and proud to have my country lead by Senators Clinton or Obama or Edwards or Feingold or Gore... let's stay on messsage for the time being. I don't fear a Hillary sweep. I do fear Repugs sweeping scandals under the rug.

2. Let's see, Democrats build huge campaign chests
from the bottom up rather than the top down like the Republics.

Not only do bottom-up candidates make the money, they also build the organizations.

DLC, what's wrong with this picture?

3. Could well be.
"...makes one think he has the Dean infrastructure behind him."

My daughter watched some event or other where Dean was present with Obama, and she says Dean just beamed at him like he was his own son or something. Dean can't come right out and endorse him, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if his previous infrastructure was now Obama's.

20. Actually, John Edwards has Dean's former internet guy, Mathew Gross, working for him
Edwards also held house parties on March 28th and had thousands in attendance
in all 50 states.

4. Why are these things being compared.? It is like comparing
donations to the girl scouts to donations to the Texas militia.

5. I know the media is making a big deal about all this money stuff.
I love it that the Dems are beating the Pubs in money, but this early, I don't think it matters who is ahead right now. I can't shake how far ahead Dean was, and that same media said he couldn't lose either! I just don't car who has the most money right now.

11. No. His campaign said they'd release them in the next day or so.
The media is speculating that they are so good, he doesn't want to share the spotlight with the other candidates. Who knows. Many seem to think they'll release them tomorrow.

Edwards has been running for president for five years, while Obama has been running for president for two months. The numbers that people think Obama is going to announce are an impressive feat for a campaign that is just getting started.

13. = VERY IMPRESSIVE =
Wow.

Incredible amount of support.

But the question is ---- will it continue throughout the primary?

I haven't yet donated to a candidate -- and since it looks as though General Clark isn't jumping in..

I plan to carefully watch the debates before I roll out the big bucks..

I like Richardson, Obama, and Edwards and can't wait to see how much they differ during the debates.

When is the first debate anyway?

First week of May?? Anyone remember??

15. If anything counts, it's number of donors which will shake out to
number of votes. You can have a trillion bucks, but if you don't have a majority of votes (or buy off a voting machine company) you don't win.

16. Kind of moot, as liar Hillary made it seem like she "raised" 36 million
when really she raised 26 million and then wrote herself a 10 million dollar check.

19. she did not lie
She said she raised a total of 36 mill with 10 from the previous campaign. There was no lying involved....and, she did raise it after all. It isn't as if she took it from a personal account. In, fact she has been very open about the money she raised during her senate run, and that she was keeping it for her presidential campaign. I remember the story from her election.

Show me where the Clinton campaign claims to have raised $36M?

She is reporting $36M available.

Everyone and their uncle knew that when she was destroying Senate fundraising records it was also for a Prez run.

Edit: for spelling

22. With that much $$$ have they effectively bought him?
There is waaaay too much money in political campaigns. We need real campaign finance reform NOW!!!

I want Feingold's lobbying and ethics reform bill passed immediately. And then get some public financing, spending limits, cut the maximum contribution in half, and implement instant runoff voting.

23. Democrats are doing great in the money game, unlike Mike Huckabee,
who evidently is struggling to raise enough to tip money at coffee shops.

The blue team's running strong.
