Poll question: Who will be blamed if Kerry loses in November? |
|
We know that George Bush can't legitimately win an election. So, if Kerry gets the nomination, and manages to lose, who will get the blame.

6. Gee, this is a terribly positive thread. |

:eyes:
If Bush can't "legitimately" win an election, that presumes he did something to make it illegitimate. Therefore, it is either his fault or the fault of someone in his administration.

You can't blame an election loss on any one thing, so people can have lots of fun justifying everything and anything based on an electoral loss. Take 2000: Greens will say "see, we won't vote for the lesser evil--you need to move left", whereas the DLC will say "see, populism doesn't work--you need to move right."

The establishment Democratic Party will be blamed.
But this is a longshot. Anyone will be able to beat Chimpy by November.

They panicked and grabbed on to the first guy who won anything.
JK is what he is, for better or worse. If he fails, it will be for reasons people could have known before they picked him.

that he is. Believe me. If Kerry can pull this off, he will be tops in my book. Then we will all need to let him know that he works for us.
Also (adding this on edit), whomever the nominee is (presumably, Kerry), we will need to be every bit as supportive as Bush's supporters will be. Even more so. Bush has the bully pulpit and the media. Our voices will need to be louder than theirs. <stepping off of my soapbox now)

21. all of us who didn't gush love for Dean |
|
How dare we.
It's inevitable. There will be lots of finger-pointing if that happens. I'll point my finger at the party for accelerating the already too-short primary season, thus stampeding the herd.
It's laughable, in light of recent events, how cocksure so many people were about the Dean upsurge, and it may well seem equally silly how the frenzied mob clambered to Kerry so quickly.
While we're discussing some of the dynamics, here's another annoying reminder of the faddishness of it all.
Ever notice how Clark was Dean-lite? (Think about it, he was mortal knight-in-shining-armor as opposed to a full-on Messiah...)
The Dean message was that "all the rest of you guys are turncoat losers, only I am fit to lead."
The Clark message was that "none of you could get it together, that's why I've been reluctantly called to greatness by the true of heart."
There's still plenty of time for both of them to muck it up some more.
As for who we can blame if Kerry gets the nomination--something far from certain, mind you--the big culprit is the panicky impatience that allowed us to have a short primary season. By any measure, it was an idiotic decision, and may hurt us as badly as it did in '84. (We could have had Hart in '84, and he could have won...)
