Howard Dean for DNC Chairman. |
|
If Howard Dean does not make it as the Democratic nominee, I think he should not go away. He should take the fight directly to Terry McAulliffe and become the DNC Chairman. He would do a great job at bringing the Democratic Party back to it's roots and continue to give it a spine. He would be very effective.
People should give Dean credit for bringing people back to the Democratic Party and giving a darn about politics again. It was Howard Dean and his message that helped revive the fight in the Democrats bellies.
He would make a great DNC Chairman particularly if the Democrats lose in November. Either way, there needs to be a change in the heirarchy of the Democratic Party.

1. But he would never be selected because he has trashed them |
|
Don't you see why they would never want anything to do with him?

2. Either way, the DNC must have new leadership. |

They are heading in the wrong direction.

And while we're cleaning house, lets get rid of Daschle. I would hope for his defeat in November but we need every body in the Senate.

5. If Daschle is defeated.... |
|
let it be by another Democrat. Somebody with a spine. If I were from South Dakota, I would run against him.

8. A complete restructuring will never happen because the majority |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 10:29 PM by YouMustBeKiddingMe
will never go for it. A minority is never going to be able to force a complete reorganization of the DNC. You do realize that, don't you? The DNC itself is not going to elect/select representatives and office holders who are trying to eat them out from the inside.

10. The DNC will not change? |

I warn you, if the Democrats lose in November, then expect more people to leave the Democratic Party. People do not want a party that is Republican Lite.

14. I agree that the Democratic Party has moved to the right over |
|
the past generation. There is no denying that. You and I can agree that we both desire a shift back to the left. It's the degree of shift and how quickly that shift happens that I suspect we might not see eye to eye on.
I will also grant you that some on the far left will leave the Democratic Party if the Dems lose the election in November. It's not going to change how the Democratic Party operates though, I'm sorry to say. The few percent loss on the left fringe is not worth the much greater loss in the center, swing votes, and Independents, to justify a radical restructuring of the Party to appease the few on the left. It's just not going to happen.
If Bush wins in November, I don't think we'll have another chance for another generation or two. I really don't. I'm afraid given another 4 years will tilt our political system to a one party system for as far as the eye can see.

4. To hell with the DNC/DLC cabala Dean needs to start the |
|
real democratic party and tell them all where to go. If the things I've heard on here tonight are true I will not wast my time voting again. I'll start planing my departure if Dean bends over for these pieces of crap.

6. There needs to be a faction to counter the DLC/DNC. |
|
A group that could call itself The Real Democratic Party Alliance or something like that. A group that will carry the grassroots progressivism that the Democratic Party championed. That day when the mushy middle goes away and progressives come back is not far away. The time to unite for that goal is now!

11. No. Something within the Democratic Party. |

If the Democratic Party is going to survive, it must quit mocking and going along with the Republicans.

15. How about what Kucinich is trying to do? |
|
He is an excellent champion for such a cause and is doing just what you suggest. He already promotes progressive causes and will continure to do so after the election.
Perhaps it's time for more people to get behind the Kooch!

13. This is what bugs me about the pro DLC/DNC types. |
|
It appears they don't want anybody to the left of their political position in the Democratic Party. If that is case, then they should merge the Democratic Party with the Republicans. They are getting close to that anyway.

16. This isn't the year for a third party. |
|
We need a united Democratic party for '04. When we win, and I think we will, we will discuss a movement within the Democratic party (which I will sign up for).
