You do realize that if the mainstream media even mentions the intern story
Kerry would be severely damaged goods?

6. and for that reason, its far more significant now
people were OK with being fooled once and then they were just happy to be fattening their wallets for round two. and they've been regretting it ever since.

61. Perhaps damaged, but still more competitive
Kerry may be damaged by adulterous perceptions, but he'd still likely be more competitive in the Fall's GE than any of the other remaining candidates -- none of whom have the prerequisite national security experience.

Really... I'm a Dean supporter, but I really think it stinks that some Democrats here are reveling in this story.

Something like this hurts us all and for any Dem to celebrate this development is wrong... very wrong.

43. I see...so, if you don't like someone's opinions, beat them up?
You sound like you're on the wrong message board...aren't you looking for Free something-or-other?

Anyway, please note that Kaus describes the story as "suggestive-but-not-even-close-to-definitive," which qualification sure doesn't sound like the words of a diehard Kerry-hater.

OTOH, further down the same page, Kaus does get in a fully-justified shot at Kerry, which (particularly in his last sentence) echos my own misgivings about the man. Talking about Kerry's Vietnam heroism, he adds:

The Kerry problem is more that these qualities haven't been much displayed in the decades since, when he has been a distinctly non-courageous, positioning, play-it-safe politician. Did he take so many risks in Vietnam he that was determined never to take another risk again? ...

It hurts us all. I do not celebrate it.

If true, it does significant damage to our chances in November. This is nothing to celebrate.

We forgave Clinton because of his record and his personality. Kerry has no real message, he voted for the war, and on top of that, he's an adulterer. If this is true, he should leave the race immediately.

My avatar has no bearing on the issue. It was an astronaut earlier. Besides, changing my avatar just because Kerry is having a bad day could be seen as trying to mask my affiliation. I am proud to support Howard Dean and happy to let anyone see it.

I think Democrats who are pushing this story have some serious soul searching to do. I feel very sad right now. We're on the verge of taking the presidency, possibly by a landslide having major Senate and House coattails. Yet we seem most interested in undermining each other for petty partisan objectives.

46. It will not help him
"Clinton got by on this"

No he did not. Remember, Clinton won because Ross Perot, a cranky little billionare with personal issues against George H W Bush pulled 19 percent of the vote and at a ratio of over 2:1 it came from repugs and other likely Bush voters.

Clinton only got 43 percent of the vote in 1992. Were it not for Ross Perot, Clinton would have lost by 2 to 3 percent.

Beyond this, what if Kerry wins in spite of this? The repugs will be just that much more inspired to pound on him like they did with Clinton.

I see no way that this turns out pretty.

53. Drudge says that the mainstream media has already investigated
These allegations, but not one word of it in the mainstream media, over 4 days since Clark made the allegations to a dozen reporters in the mainstream media.(Drudge claims that the Associated Press, the Washinton Post, and ABC News have already investigated the allegations:

Center of the storm is a woman who was recently told to flee out of the US by Kerry. TIME, ABC NEWS, the WASHINGTON POST and the ASSOCIATED PRESS are said to have investigated her disappearence and the nature of her relationship to Kerry.

http://www.shortnews.com/shownews.cfm?id=36936&u_id=56352&CFID=62801&CFTOKEN=74745655

No other source but a British Paper (the Independent) has mentioned the Drudge allegations, and they state that Drudge has said the alleged intern is in "Africa" of course, a place where the media would have the hardest time locating anyone, due to the extreme backwardsness of the communiations on that continent, except for a few areas.

Drudge makes the statement that a friend of the woman alleged to be involved approached the media a year ago. Old news.
