Here's the results of a non-scientific poll that was put up a few days ago...

"(4/25) If the general election were held today and both major parties are running abortionist, feminist, homosexualist, environmentalist, McCain-Feingold supporting, illegal alien supporting, gun grabbing, individual rights trampling, constitution trampling liberals how would you vote?"

Only about 25% say they'd vote for the left-leaning Republican, while 42% say they'd go third party. The other 33% would write-in, stay home, or even (gasp) vote for the Democrat!

It's a pretty useless poll, on the face of it, but it gives you a rough idea how the "Base" thinks about their current crop of candidates. "Homosexualist," abortionist, and so on undoubtedly refers to front-runner Giuliani. McCain is mentioned by name, and even Romney, who embraces environmental issues (gasp!) and is considered untrustworthy when it comes to guns, looks a little suspect. In other words, if someone other than Thompson (not running yet), Gingrich (unlikely), or Tancredo (yeah, right) gets the nomination, we're going to see a major upheaval in the GOP ranks.

Who's the Republican Ralph Nader, anyhow?

2. I'm thinking either Howard Phillps or Michael Peroutka
And perhaps we should help them out a little bit with signatures to get them on state ballots.

4. They've painted themselves into a pretty tight corner, haven't they.
The perfect candidate for FreeRepublic would appeal to about 10% of the population.

I suspect that many will vote 3rd party or no vote in 2008. More so to remain ideologically pure while, in an unstated way, pragmatically understanding that this country can't afford another 4-8 years of Republican incompetence and the agenda that they pretend to love so much.

6. Wayne LaPierre is the Republican Ralph Nader.
They've supported senile (Reagan), milquetoast (GeorgeHerbertWalkerBush), punchdrunk (Dole), and imbecile (BoyGeorge). Why not go whole hog and back the insane (LaPierre)?

9. Don't get cocky. Both of our Democratic "frontrunners" will have trouble in the general election.
If you support either of them you had better be ready for a serious fight for the Presidency and all the way down every ticket if one of them wins the nomination.

13. I was gonna say -- the correct Freep term is "screwn," people!
Repeat after me, Freeps:

"I'm screwn
You're screwn
He's screwn
She's screwn
They're screwn
We're all screwn
We have been screwn
We will be screwn in the future."

16. I still can't get my head around Giuliani ...
On three *very* fundamental issues to the conservative base he's not with them, one of those being one their pet "unifiers" - hatred of gays - the other two being abortion and gun control. But right wing hate radio is pushing this guy on their listeners *HARD*. It's the weirdest damn thing ... kind of like moveon.org backing Lieberman.
