The 11 Presidents of my lifetime and impeachment....
I was born under Truman and passed under Eisenhower before the first President I recall seeing elected, who was JFK and Camelot, both asassinated 8 days before my 10th birthday.I remember LBJ and the Great Society and moves towards social justice.I remember being in the army and voting for Nixon's re-election and the disillusionment that followed...And now I will state this-since the FIRST time I ever sided with a republican President there has been none-as in not one-that has not richly needed and DESERVED to be impeached and our country has suffered because we, the Democrats have failed to at least attempt this.
In that time we watched Nixon turn the apparatus of the government into a partisan hit squad (sound familiar?). A vaguely Papal expiation of sins designed to obstruct the exposure of malfeasence(Ford),criminal collusion to aid election (Reagan-Iran hostage deal),drug-running/weapon/money deals to advance illegal death squads (GHW Bush-Iran Contra) and now FINALLY GW and an illegal Iraq invasion...oh yeah, also illegal domestic spying and the suspension of habeus corpus and torture etc., etc,...
But what it comes down to is that EVERY Republican President in the last 40 years both deserved and NEEDED to be impeached and that our failure to do so has much more "emboldened" the REAL enemies of America than anything we could ever do in Iraq...
The real rot in the Bush White House is not Bush himself who is vapid and ineffective, if often stubborn and perverse-the rot is the ghouls whom we never drove a stake through-creatures of the night and ghosts of criminal regimes past-what would Dickens have said of a Rumsfeld or a Cheney allowed to roam the earth unfettered five administrations past the time their (deserved) felony convictions should have left them too chained and encumbered to ever again shape a national debate?
This then is why we MUST impeach and prosecute each person in this criminal regime. Or would you rather see some young GW staffer shaping the debate for your grandchildren in the 2160"s???

3. This is the primary reason I endorse impeachment.
To keep the Condi's, Roves, Gonzales's, and all of the rest from ever being able to serve again.

Also, I find your entire premise most interesting in it's perspective. We need journalists, now! We need to remember, now! Only then will this stop. Only then will Republicans fear the consequences of illegal acts.

4. I support impeachment but not right now because it will happen soon.
I can wait a little longer. Timing is everything. I want to see him convicted, too, not simply impeached, but apparently impeachment is good enough for some. Unfortunately there appears to be only one opinion here about impeachment which is considered valid by those who hold it. All others are condemned. Impeachment will either happen or it won't. If it does not there will be a lot of exploding heads.

We must be about the same age because I was born under Truman also, in '52. I can remember shaking HHH's hand when he appeared in my city during the 1964 campaign. But a question. LBJ did nothing, nothing in light of what we know now that deserved impeachment? Of course, even if he did, with the makeup of the government at the time it would never have happened.

6. Yep, I saw an HHH rally in '68....
...we can wait a little longer for impeachment but it is important that it be called for at all times once the recognition of criminality exists...to delay the call after you recognize the criminality-to wait for others to catch on-is itself a failing of conscience. In our history two presidents have been impeached for political reasons and neither convicted. It would be a redemption before the world to both impeach and convict one before releasing him to the Hague.

5. spot on
the machine that Ike so clearly warned us of has been running unfettered ever since

It has gutted the press, which was its (temporary) downfall in Watergate

It said "never again!" after that, while we naively thought we had slain the dragon.

9. Even if Pelosi isn't made president if and when Bush and Cheney get shot down...

... one thing we need to demand be put in place with the Republicans is that there be NO option for a subsequent president to pardon anyone in this band of criminals!

If we should learn anything from Watergate and Iran/Contra, it is that these criminals keep getting recycled into the fray again. And each time they do it, they get bolder, feeling like noone can touch them! This needs to STOP NOW! Perhaps even send some of them like Rumsfeld and Gonzales to the Hague for trial!

Even if we "work it" so that another president gets "appointed" ala Ford, one thing we need to DEMAND if we go along with that with Republicans is that we pass a constitutional ammendment limiting a sitting president's ability to pardon someone in the present or previous administration, and therefore not take away the ability for justice to be served on these crooks!

12. Beautiful!
Impeachment is the only way we'll ever get to the bottom of all the crimes. To not impeach would be a crime in itself.

Thanks for posting this.

15. I agree. But
I would point out that if your 10th birthday was November 30, 1963, (8 days after the Kennedy assassination), you are only about 5 months older than I am. If that's true, you were born in the Eisenhauer administration.
