It sure is an empty, hollow victory to be proved right.... |

I am sure I am not the only DU'er to feel a bit like Cassandra today, haunted by the truth but unable to convince anyone to your side...
Four years ago, we all cringed as Bush strutted across that Aircraft Carrier looking like the dime store Hot Gun he is...
We suffered that image, over and over as the people who control the media fawned over what they thought was the second coming of General George Patton...
The only part of that they got right was the George part...
I am glad to know I can't be persuaded by the propaganda of the right and from the left as well...
And it saddens me the first reaction to real or perceived wrongs always has to be aggression....
It gives little or no comfort to all of those directly effected by this war of choice, this mano y mano approach to problems big and small, that we were right...
Are those of us who always ask why destined to forever to be dubbed naysayers...
To that I say, Bring it on...
It is in our right as citizens to question what and where and how our leaders act in out behalf...
It is our responsibility to those hold those same people responsible for the actions they take in our name...
It is a duty I, for one, will continue to perform...

1. The road to enlightenment is long and lonely. |

Knowing what the average person does not will always make a person a bit of an outsider.

3. I've been used to being right since 1968 |
|
As I tell my Republican friends, since I first came of age, there is not one single issue of national prominence that -- so far -- I have not been proven to be right about Time and time again, I've found myself on the losing side of an argument but on the right side of history. Unlike my GOP friends, there is no issue that I have had to reluctantly conclude (as they all have) that I was initially wrong about.
How was I able to be on the right side of all the wrongheaded decision made by my government, my national media anf my fellow Americans?
Simple. I never get on the same side as the Republican Party.
Since Republicans -- given time -- will always be proven wrong, all I have to do to be proven right is to oppose them on every issue. Which I intend to continue to do.

6. No kidding. I'm thinking about all the arguments I had back in 1999 |
|
and 2000 with wrong-wingers who were just SURE, ROCK SOLID SURE that bush was the closest thing to The Second Coming. "Oh, I think he's going to UNITE everyone..." said the woman. "Ohhhh, it'll NEVER happen. Not gonna happen. REEEEEE-LAAAAAXXX..." said the cock-sure mom about how Roe v Wade was and would continue to be untouchable. "He's a GOOD MAN! A GOOD Christian man! And I bet HE doesn't cheat on HIS wife with some chickadee..." said the other lady at the table. "And HE'S not a LIAR!" said the middle-aged man sitting next to her. "I dunno... I just LIKE him..." said the other guy who was listening in."
NOBODY was listening to me. Now, none of them is willing to face me. Those I still see will talk at length about ALL SORTS OF EVERYTHING ELSE but not politics. Time was, politics dominated their conversation and their level of indignation. They couldn't say enough bad things about Clinton. It was always Clinton, Clinton, Clinton. Clinton this. Clinton that. They couldn't find ONE thing nice to say about the guy. Now it's like - "ummm... wha???"
I did have one staunch republi-CON pal turn to me at one point and admit that he actually had begun to miss Clinton - and miss him A LOT (and this was awhile ago) because business was so much better during the Clinton years than it was now.
