My God, there's a Republican on C-Span talking sense on Peak Oil, conservation of energy, etc!
Rep. Roscoe Bartlett of 6th District, Maryland.

The guy is talking about how he doesn't care if global warming is true or not, because what environmentalists want (reduced use of fossil fuels) is the same thing other groups that are worried about peak oil, dependence on foreign oil, and national security, and the loss of our manufacturing base want. He mentioned five political groups who's wants all converge around conserving energy and developing a manufacturing bases based on new energy technologies. He ended his presentation with a chart showing energy consumption on one axis and happiness with quality of life on the other. The U.S.A. was way over in the upper right hand corner and there were at least a dozen countries (maybe many more) who used far less energy but had the same or higher level of happiness with quality of life.

And this guy is a Republican!

3. Unlike most R's, he apparently wants to keep his job in 2009
Good for him. I can deal with Republics who actually care about things that affect average people.

5. He's been doing it for years.
Keep watching, and you'll hear him discuss the failures of ethanol.

I got a degree in engineering because it's a virtually unspinnable subject. Two plus two equals four. Unless it's Rove's math.

8. He made an impressive presentatio n.
Can you believe there used to be lots of Republicans
like him. Thoughtful, smart and give full and intelligent
presentations. There were Democrats who would join
and they would fully explore ideas.

Unforturnately, the Republican Party permitted itself to
be taken over by the RR and we have been in a culture
war ever since. Totally changed the "Chracter of the
Repubican Party.

That Senator also has an excellent scientific presentation
on Stem Cell Research.

I maintain if we do not start accomplishing something on
Climate Change, Global Warming, Energy Policy, Health
Care, Globalization,(job dislications, esp.) Trade Policy,
those "God, Guns, Gays and Race Issues, will not matter
a tinkers darn. The country will be in such a mell of a hess
those issues will be irrelevent. We will be struggling
to survive. (BTW, I include combatting terrorism in the
globalization piece.
