Ann Coulter Speeches Scrubbed by Conservative Groups
Recently Released Conference Video Collections Omit Addresses by Rightwing Controversialist
Has the Republican Superstar Finally Become a Pariah for the Right?

Guest Blogged by Daniel Borchers of Citizens for Principled Conservatism

Has Ann Coulter reached her tipping point? Will she become a pariah as did David Duke? Or will conservatives pretend to have principles while promoting Coulter as their conservative icon?

"Has Ann Coulter reached her tipping point?"

That question has been repeatedly asked since her latest infamy at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC, March 2) and Reclaiming America for Christ Conference (RAC, March 3).

Recent Coulter no-shows at high-profile events and the scrubbing of several of her recent appearances from the video collections of conservative events seems to suggest the Republican superstar could finally be in her "last throes."

The tipping point question begs the fence-sitting answer: When will conservatives make a choice and stand for principles? Are they, or are they not, Ann Coulter Conservatives? If not, why is she still among us at all?

Does Coulter represent conservatives or not? Is she a serious political and moral authority or merely an entertainer? Which is it? And why, oh why, is she held to lower standards than anyone else?

5. What I don't get about her is:
What in the world is supposed make her conservative?

Radical right does not mean conservative. She boasts about
her right to pick up guys in a bar and go to bed with them,
which is certainly her right, but that's a pretty liberal
approach to your personal life, if you ask me. She is pretty
free with the truth and has a demeanor that would make most
pit bulls go green with envy (or cringe in terror, I can't
decide which).

The fact that she has nothing but vitriol for anyone who
anyone who either disagrees with her or is a member of the
Democratic Party doesn't make her conservative, either. It
just makes her what she is--a lonely, disturbed female whose
smarts got her fame and money, no clue why neither brought
her peace or happiness, and a lot of anger because of it.

14. Actually, most of the Republican leadership is not conservative at all
Going back to Saint Ronnie of Reagan, Republican leaders have been fiscal liberals, judging by their actions. They reduce taxes but they borrow money and spend more than Democratic administrations do. As such they don't really cut taxes they just defer them.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A20059-2005Apr1.html

When you think of someone who maxes out their credit cards because they spend more than they earn, you think of them as liberal spenders, not conservative spenders, right?

http://zfacts.com/p/318.html

Besides the national treasury, what else is it today's Republican leadership is supposed to be conserving? The Constitution?

Congress should pass a new law that gives us the legal right to punch someone in the face every time they refer to Saint Ronnie, Poppy, or Junior as conservatives. And I should be allowed to sit in on all Sunday talk show discussions for the purpose of exercising that privelege.

"Liberals go to therapy. Conservatives go to church."

Ahhh, I see. That's the difference.

16. Does this mean that if we fight, we can win?
All this time, I've been coached and schooled by folks who tell me that what Little Arfin' Annie says doesn't matter, and nobody really pays any attention to her, and it's a complete waste of time to be on her case for the drivel she writes and the vitriol she spews.

And now the "Citizens for Principled Conservatism," a group I've haven't heard a peep from in the last quarter century, seems to think she's gone radioactive. Just a coincidence, I'm sure, and Ms. Coulter will be back, brassier and more strident than ever.

17. She'll keep selling he books and making appearances on debate shows for as long as she can
I often wonder if she believes half of the damn tripe that comes out of her mouth. It's all about ratings and selling her books. I know there are folks who believe every psychotic word of hers that they read. They are the ones that scare the crap out of me. The fact that she gets air time as some sort of 'respectable' pundit or source of information only feeds her nutty readers.

She'll really fall when folks start canceling being on any show she's given air time.

18. Ha!Ha! Is this "image makeover day" or what? Stench is stuck - she's yours!
Nobody will imagine she is just some lunatic lone ranger. She was part of a movement to reshape the Conservatives image as hip, photogenic, cool, irreverent - as opposed to the priggish PC liberals (the "PC" invention was an important part of this). I remember reading many articles in the 80's and 90s about "Conservatives know how to have fun" - where bigotry and meannes was elevated at levels of wit and non-conformism.
It's significant that they want to change - but the horse-like carcass of Coulter shall adorn your image, conservatives for years to come.
Young cool and fancy free, indeed!

19. What the hell is a "Controversialist"?
Has anyone ever heard of that word being used to describe someone other than a hate mongering rightwing blowhard?
It's funny you never hear anyone call a leftwinger "controversial" or a "controversialists". They're either a "loon" or a "moonbat" or a "radical extremist".
