Edwards Leads in Southern Fundraising
John Edwards: "I'm the only Democratic presidential candidate with any chance of winning the coveted South." If early fundraising is any indication, he might be right," the AP reports.

While Edwards placed third behind Sen Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama in first quarter fundraising, he raised more money in the South. "From Louisiana to the Carolinas, Edwards easily beat his Democratic rivals and -- perhaps more importantly -- raised more money than the top three Republican candidates combined."

1. What an upset if Edwards took the south over repubs
If Clark doesn't enter the race he may be the only candidate who could do it.

4. it is a sweeping generalization
one that is widely held about Dems in red states unfortunately,
the exceptions you pointed out notwithstanding.

14. "Widely held" by whom? The southerners who voted in Webb and Lampson?
Oh, wait...Webb and Lampson are Democrats.

Back to the drawing room, for you, I guess.

8. Ever heard of "rob Georgia"?
Georgia is in the repube column for '08 already, it's a given, regardless.

10. Uhh, derrrrrrr
the vote is rigged in Georgia, has been since 2002. That has quite a bit more to do with '08 than what happened in '76 and '96, before Georgia chose Diebold machines statewide. cleland 2002 is way more telling then cleleand 1996. Polling well ahead and losing handily.

Whatev.

12. yeah, right, but it wasn't rigged when Jimmy Carter and Max Cleland first won
A poster above used those two to show Democrats can win in red states. I correctly said Georgia was not red when they won.

6. And he has no chance of winning it, either.
Yes - he has the best chance, but still no chance.

11. His nomination could cause the Republican candidate to become the next Dukakis.

And as a bonus we get a strong well-spoken progressive in the executive branch.

There is no way I'm going to support one of the two media promoted "frontrunners".

13. that's a gimme
but I have to wonder if he can really take any southern states...

he sure didn't help Kerry there and he had no coattails for the southern Senate races in 2004, either.

Personally, I think the Democratic Party would do well to not "covet" the south...

15. Edwards is the only Dem who can win the General Election
according to Rassmusen he beats everyone including McCain and Rudy - niether Obama or Hillary can beat Rudy.

I don't understand why this isn't a bigger deal? It sucks that Hillary is "ahead" in the DNC polling, but she can't win the general election, its going to be another disaster.
