Fight the Veto by John Kerry
Posted at Daily Kos:

Fight the Veto

by John Kerry

I came here last week to ask you to join me in defending Harry Reid from the attacks of the right. And it’s important to do that because our party needs us to stick up for each other.

But it’s not enough to defend. I used to always say that I was tired of life in the minority in the Senate because I was tired of just stopping bad things from happening, I wanted to make things happen that reflected the hopes and aspirations of the people I cared about.

So now we have this Democratic Majority which a lot of folks fought and scrapped and gave their all to build – so I know I’m not alone here when I say: it’s time to go on offense—not just fight back but lead the fight for what’s important.

1. Kerry rocks.
He always did and he always will.

And regarding your last link there, if I were Mitch McConnell, I'd resign now. Kerry is doing the work that needs to be done, and he's doing it beautifully.

even those who look invincible.

Instead, we had a DNC from 1995-2005 that didn't know how to OPPOSE fiercely the way the RNC could and DID.

Luckily we have Dean now and he and Kerry are usually on the same page.

4. Who are the 7
Please bring me the 7 Dems who voted against the veto. They are slap worthy. Let's stick together.

8. update:There were a few questions
update: There were a few questions about focusing on the immediate instead of 2008. Let me just reprint what I said below for anyone else who has this question:

It's not primarily about defeating anyone in 2008. This is about trying to save lives now. As I write in the post:

But just as last year you defeated the Rubber Stamp Republicans, now it's time to take on these Roadblock Republicans and show them the pressure a committed American public can put on them. And maybe, if we put enough pressure on the right places, they'll rethink supporting the President over the change of course our troops deserve.

This is about activist pressure right now and trying to get a change in course right now. This is the kind of activist campaign that can get the attention of folks. And I have to say, look back at 2006 – if we can’t prove that we can make these races competitive, there’s not the kind of pressure needed to push candidates on Iraq. There’s a reason some Senate Republicans are rushing to embrace our plans to end the war, and it has at least something to do with self-preservation. A wise teacher of Boston politics once told me, there’s nothing like the prospect of defeat at the ballot box to sharpen the mind!
