Kerry targets "Roadblock Republicans"

A few weeks ago, a majority of both houses of Congress voted to force a new course in Iraq. President Bush vetoed that legislation. But the fight is not over.

Some may say it's impossible to assemble a veto-proof majority to set a deadline, but nothing is impossible. And, even if we can’t get to those numbers, if we increase the pain for the Republican Party, we'll increase the pressure on the President to change his behavior.

Only one year ago, when John Kerry and Russ Feingold first introduced a bill to set a deadline, it only got a handful of votes. But the strong wishes of Americans for a new course has changed the debate, and many Senators have changed their minds and their votes.

Now a small caucus of "Roadblock Republicans" stand in the way of the Congress enacting the will of the people. They won't face election until 2008, but we can start to work for change now. Lives are at stake, and we can't waste time waiting around.

Some will break and start voting our way before the election, and this will create more pressure on the White House to change their behavior. This is not a partisan issue; this is about the future of America.

Put the pressure on, and let's see who cracks first:

CLEAR THE ROADBLOCK

1. GOOD!!! This is how the DNC should have approached these elections since 1995.
Attack them ALL and make THEM worried about re-election.

4. Because he is not up for reelection in 2008.
The list he put out is a list of vulnerable Republicans due for reelection in 08.

5. I need to do more checking
Guess it's safe to say I think all republicans should have to face reelection in 2008.

9. Oh, I thought so too
My first thoughts went to Inhofe and Coburn. They are the worst of the worst. But at least one of them is not up in '08 and they are not moderates. (Boy are they ever not moderates.)

Don't feel bad, we all do this from time to time.

8. How about getting Kerry to demand veto override vote in the Senate?
The override vote is REQUIRED by the Constitution, United States Constitution, Article I, Setion 7:
"But in all such cases the votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and nays, and the names of the persons voting for and against the bill shall be entered on the journal of each House respectively."

10. It might be poor strategy
The numbers with us have risen for 13 to 48 to 51. Now imagine there is a vote, we will not get over 51 and may put the few Republicans we have in a bad position - then if they vote against it, we lose the momentum.

At any rate, Reid is the majority leader. Ask him to call a vote. Kerry doing so would just lead to people complaining that he is hurting the effort.

Maybe you should ask one of the Presidential candidates?

11. Making them vote is the best strategy to cracking them.
Thanks for an intelligent response, which is more than I got on another thread.
;)
I doubt the 51 who voted in favor will change their votes. The war will only get worse and they know it. Changing a vote will lead to being labeled a flip-flopper. They don't want that.

60% of the public is opposed to the situation in Iraq now.

Reid has to make them vote until they beg for us to stop, and it is not happening.

12. Never mind. I missed something on this. No vote possible now.
