This should be very interesting, indeed. My thought is that the DNC has rules made by the committee which was appointed in 2004. My thought also is that Florida's voting system is nowhere near safe enough to be trusted in an early primary.
Good to see both parties are denying delegates.
Legislature Passes Plan For January Presidential Primary The state House Thursday approved a plan to move the 2008 presidential primary from early March to January 29. That move would allow Florida to bypass at least a dozen other states that have recently moved their primaries to Feb. 5.
...."National Republican and Democratic leaders have said they will take away delegates to the nominating conventions if Florida moves its primary earlier than Feb. 5.
Not only will Florida be punished if it moves up its presidential primary, but Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said any Democratic candidate who steps foot in the state will be too.
Dean acknowledges that Florida is the state most likely to jump ahead of states like California and New York which are moving up to the Feb. 5 primary, but it, and any other state, will do so at a cost.
He said he supports a Jan. 19 caucus in Nevada and a Jan. 29 primary in South Carolina because it adds more diversity to the process.
I see that MaineDem had a post up about this earlier, linking to it.
