Legal Secretary of Akin Gump, Suspended After Telling She Worked For...
Edited on Thu May-03-07 12:49 PM by Frustratedlady
Breaking News from ABCNEWS.com:

A legal secretary at Akin Gump, one of Washington's most prominent law firms, has been suspended after telling her bosses she secretly worked for, and at times helped run, the escort service run by the "D.C. Madam," Jeane Palfrey. Read the full story at ABCNEWS.com and watch Friday on "20/20."

Check out the last paragraph:

Considered one of the most powerful firms in Washington, Akin Gump partners make up a who's who of Washington insiders, including Vernon Jordan, former Speaker of the House Tom Foley, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and co-founder Robert Strauss, an adviser to numerous presidents.

5. Yep. The firm has a rule that one cannot moonlight but now the firm doesn't want to dismiss her

because she's a government witness in the case.

<snip>

The Akin Gump secretary was described by Palfrey as an "absolutely lovely gal," who was working as an escort "to go back to school and get her education, to finish her college degree."

"We had no inkling until she informed us this Monday morning," said R. Bruce McLean, the chairman of Akin Gump.

The woman, who worked directly for one of the firm's many prominent lawyers, has been placed on administrative leave.

The firm has a policy prohibiting full-time employees from holding any other jobs. "She did not seek approval for that particular job and would not have been given it," McLean said.

McLean said the woman told the firm she was a government witness in the D.C. Madam case, and the firm was hesitant to dismiss her because of that.

6. They're keeping her on to maintain client confidentiality. Providing extra services to AG clients?

4. No problem FL! This DC madam story is really getting legs!
Now the lawyers have to get lawyered up!

I wonder how big her client list is? Ms. Palfrey is being screwed (pun intended) by the prosecution. How can she be charged with racketeering when no one else is charged? It takes two or more to racketeer.

7. Now, I wonder how many "bosses" will check out their employee's
emails for lining up "business" on company time. If they only check out the attractive employees, they may face a lawsuit for discrimination.

This story just keeps giving and giving and giving.
