ABC dissess Edwards' "We the People" ad

Must have struck a nerve somewhere!

Edwards Campaign Ad Presents Washington Insiders as 'We the People'
'We the People' Effort More K Street Than Main Street

By RICK KLEIN
May 3, 2007

John Edwards' first television advertisement, "We the people," demands that Congress confront the president over the Iraq War, with a succession of ordinary-looking faces and voices appearing on camera pleading with lawmakers not to back down.

But "We the people" is more K Street than Main Street, it turns out.

At least two of the nine people the Edwards campaign included in the ad are Washington-based political professionals. One is a Democratic political consultant, and the other is a top fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay and lesbian advocacy organization.

Edwards Camp Defends 'We the People'
Eric Schultz, a spokesman for the former North Carolina senator and 2008 presidential candidate, said the ad features "friends of the Edwards campaign" who live in Washington because that's where the ad was filmed.

They all volunteered to appear on camera, and none were paid for their services, he said.

In some more hard-hitting journalism, ABC also guides the reader to its additional fine articles on John Edwards:

Editor's Picks:

The Note: Is John Edwards 2008's Howard Dean?

(Edwards is going anti-war in order to "peel support from Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL))"

Edwards Comes Full Circle on Iraq

("While Edwards' sharp turn to the left may ingratiate him with the more liberal voters who dominate the Democratic caucuses and primaries that select the party's nominee, it may also call his consistency into question").

2. Wow that is all they have to say about it?
They dug down to see who the people in the ad are?

Well what if a DU'er got into a political ad?? Would that be something that needs to be reported on "oooh they are a netroot ooooh" and so on.

4. I can only guess they are afraid of Edwards
with all this crap. IMO Obama is this year's 'Howard Dean' if one wants to award such a designation.

6. this is the standard phase 1 attack on Dem candidates
Edited on Thu May-03-07 04:33 PM by KurtNYC
The MSM/GOP playbook:

Phase 1: during the primaries, define each of the Democratic candidates as some version of a phony or hypocrit or both. Basic goal: whittle away the candidates base(s), suppress loyalty among supporters.

Phase 2: when the front runner is established, tailor and concentrate the framing efforts on them. Swiftboating used the alleged peers of Kerry to slander his name -- it was very specific and was aimed at Kerry supporters. The goal of phase 2 is to separate the candidate from their base.

American politics are all about who stays home versus who comes out and votes. Converting people from GOP to Dem or vice-versa just doesn't happen. So the MSM/GOP tactics are aimed at getting people to stop supporting the Dem candidate(s).

8. Has ABC seen the Remix yet ?

What's funny about the article, I guess we have to start putting every human appearing in every Dem/GOP campaign ad under the microscope?

10. Harry Reid did also. But the folks here approve of that.
They think it is ok for a senate leader to single out one candidate.
