After watching the debate tonight, I will campaign AGAINST the GOP no matter what.
There are some Democratic candidates I've felt it'd be really difficult to work for if they get the nomination.

However, after watching tonight, I will work like hell to make sure NONE of these asshats gets the White House. That includes supporting campaigns against him, campaigns for our candidate, and whatever I can do for verified voting.

That bunch of ten white men are damned scary.

Anybody with me?

3. But Rudy said he'd protect us from the terrorists!
And Mitt Romney's a Mormon.

And Sam Brownback is a psychotic.

Shouldn't we vote the way Brit Hume tells us we should?

_____________

Absolutely right. Let's round these red fools up and make sure they lose at every level in every city, state, and national election there is.

All blue in 2008.

4. Race - again?
I'm troubled by the reference to race in so many of these threads. I disagree with these jerks because of their policies. The race crap should stop. Is being White now a BAD thing? That's the implication.

8. Oh yeah, I was implying "being white now is a bad thing."
:sarcasm:

I was referring to white men who represent a party that cares about the power of white men.

Our debates show a party that includes women and minorities -- both last time and this time -- and the white men in our party aren't misogynist sanctimonious hypocritical pseudo-Christian assholes (at least for the most part).

Or is that "gender stereotyping?" :eyes:

15. THINK
If we were discussing the NBA and someone said, "All those black guys running up and down the court," would you not ask what RACE has to do with it? Or, would you simply say those comments are okay and ask if it's okay to point out that they're all guys? Honestly.

Do I really have to point this out to you? A basketball team is not in the business of debating let alone SETTING policy for other people based on race, sex, class, religion, etc...

Among THIS bunch, it matters.

23. Okay - forget it.
Let's let it be okay then for the pukes to point out the "black guy" when referring to Obama. That would be unacceptable! And it should be for any of US to use racial comments referring to their candidates. Let's fight them on the issues -- which are PLENTIFUL.

26. Okay -- keep missing the point.
"Let's fight them on the issues" -- can I say "white" and "men" in that context? Is it just a coincidence they're white men themselves?

I'm serious, I'd like to know if you think this t-shirt is out of line. I'm involved in a get-out-the-vote campaign and it's one of our VOTE PROGRESSIVE designs. (Click "view larger" to read.) Thanks in advance for your input.

14. Well their policy is a policy of white privilege.
Edited on Thu May-03-07 09:05 PM by Heaven and Earth
They stand for hierarchy, with white people on top. That's why they work to disenfranchise black voters, that's why statehood for D.C. scares them. That's why they push the "war on drugs". That's why people like Rush "Barack the Magic Negro" Limbaugh and Bill "abort the black babies to reduce crime" Bennett are in the party. It's why Ronald Reagan launched his campaign in Mississippi where the civil rights workers were murdered. It's why they oppose removing the confederate flag from public property. It's why they oppose affirmative action. They try to buy off African-Americans on cultural issues rather than doing anything for them economically.

For that matter, its why they stoke nativist fears on immigration. It's why they recognize Islamic fundamentalism as a threat but not Christian fundamentalism.

Edited on Thu May-03-07 09:12 PM by Heaven and Earth
We can move beyond race by calling out racism. It's unfortunate that that makes you uncomfortable. I'm a white male who wants everyone else of every race and gender to have the same privileges I do because of my status. The GOP would rather I resent women and resent blacks because then I'll be afraid and they can jump in and promise protection. Well, authoritarianism is what scares me, not my fellow citizens, of any race or gender. They deserve everything I've had from birth because of my status.

More government intrusion on women's right to decide issues of her health, more ID cards, more wars, cut taxes, fund more wars, more walls, more Republican values

The good news is we got this on videotape....they can tack to the right to win the primary, but they won't be able to tack from these responses in the general.

November 2006 is only Phase One. Now we have to work on Phase Two, which is handing the White House over to the Democrats in the first free-and-fair Presidential election in America since 1996. Then there's Phase Two-point-Five, where we strengthen our gains in the House and especially the Senate.

43. Always
Republicans ARE scary. Always. Even the best of them are beholden to those who do not have our interests at heart. That may seem to be true of Democrats, too, sometimes, but not ever nearly to the extent that it's true of the Republican party. I remember telling a friend who was making the "no difference" argument to me in 2000 that if Bush got in instead of Gore it would cost lives. No ESP involved. I had no idea what was to come. I just meant it in terms of regressive policies in regards to the environment, public health and welfare and the likelihood of supporting some tyrannical regime somewhere in the world. Bush is, of course, the worst of the worst, but those are the sorts of things that all Republicans bring to the table.
