21. I'm going to bring that up at our Democrats meeting next week. We don't need to
give ammunition out. Anything we say to each other out in the real world may get repeated to GOP friends and acquaintances. And, I'm getting real tired of hearing right-wing talking points against our candidates from my Democratic Party friends. You know, the ones that go something like "I'd like so-and-so but he/she is too (fill in the blank) and besides he/she has this history of (fill in the blank)."

I may have a favorite candidate and work like heck for that candidate but I realize that any one of them is great. Any one of them is light-years ahead of anything we've got now or that the GOP is offering for the future. I'm not going to give any Democrat or Republican to even consider not voting for our nominee.

So, my pledge is that if I respond to any question or otherwise speak about any of our candidates I will say only positive things about that candidate. At worst, I will only say that I like (fill in the blank) about that person and don't yet know much about the rest of their platform but I'm looking forward to learning more.

Hillary is smart, experienced and so knowledgeable about both foreign and domestic policies. She's had a lot of life-long friends and they think she's terrific so I'll bet she's a neat person to be around.

Obama does give me a sense of vision for the future. And he's worked in non-profits, at the state level and now as senator. He's seen the way policies interact in all these arenas. That would really help him understand the impact of various decisions and policies.

Dennis Kucinich has been an elected official for longer than any of the others and he really understands what issues affect the average citizens of this country. And his focus is on them and their welfare first.

Joe Biden is really knowledgeable about many things, especially foreign policy and that's really important in these days.

Gov. Richardson is outstanding in the number of roles he has held, the experience he has, and the respect he has of all who have worked with him. He's not the "go-to guy" for international mediation for nothing.

etc.

I'm not going to give any ammunition to anyone to use against our candidate. I can support my favored candidate without casting aspersions on the others. And, I don't want anyone to think that if my candidate loses, that I or they should think we ended up with "second best" or worse as our candidate.

You know darned well that any negative things we say will be picked up and used against our ultimate candidate.

Please, don't provide the ammunition!

25. I so agree
... and well said.

So, my pledge is that if I respond to any question or otherwise speak about any of our candidates I will say only positive things about that candidate. At worst, I will only say that I like (fill in the blank) about that person and don't yet know much about the rest of their platform but I'm looking forward to learning more.

I'm with you 100% on that; I'm still working on a few rough edges. I switched into my election mode and I love this time in politics. Really. I often feel like the quote in my sig line, but it's go-time and I'm very, very excited at the prospect of kicking some GOP ass. And if Gore runs, well, I don't have the capacity to measure my joy.

6. Better yet...
....Maybe we could just have one day a week to save up all the dissing for. That way anyone who wanted to stay away on that day would know when to 'make other plans'. :) But that would mean some would have to go for 6 whole days posting only positive stuff about their OWN candidate! :freak:

9. I think that would be unnatural for us.
We have to diss. If we only had one day, many of us would literally explode. (Brains, intestines all over the place--yuck).

14. Can we have a gratuitous smear campaign Thursdays as well?
Since the whole point of a suggestion like this is to cover up Mike Gravel's extensive mafia ties and distract us from why all of Chris Dodd's nannies "go missing" after a few months' employment.

23. K & R...but how about every day?
It's absolutely stupid and self-defeating for Democrats to bash and smear fellow Democrats. Criticism on the issues is fine, but attacking them as if they were opponents only helps the GOP. I got into it at the Convention with some people I know who were supporting a different candidate. They went on a full throttle attack against Obama (I was wearing an Obama pin, and that's who I'm supporting), saying that black people won't vote for him, that nobody who is college-educated will vote for him, that he's as "anti-war as Bush", etc. I informed them that I am a college graduate who will vote for Obama and let them know how I feel about Democrats bashing other Democrats. They used to be pretty friendly, but I don't think they like me anymore now that I'm supporting a different candidate than they are. That's how ridiculous this circular firing squad gets! There are multiple people that threatening to go third party if their candidate doesn't get the nomination. It seems like some Democratic voters oppose Democrats more than Republicans.

I will state once again that I will be voting for the Democratic nominee in 2008, NO MATTER WHO IT IS!! (Though I hope it's Obama!) In my opinion, this is a much more liberal thing to do than to hand it over to the GOP by voting third party.

26. Thank You!!!! This is supposed to be the Democratic underground.
I diss only 1 person Lamont which I feel bad about later. But Thank You! You are Right. Richardson pushed for this as well in at least one of the convention/meet and greets. But all candidates have problems and we tend to go about highlighting these too often. We need to push the love.

24. TGIF!!! thanks for the suggestion. One question:
I like to find interesting or intriguing stories that I hope will stir conversation. what if I came across a really good story but, it may have something not good about someone.
How do we handle that???

27. Nah. Won't fly, and here's why:
What constitutes a "diss" is pretty subjective. If I criticize, say, Edwards for voting for the war when he and Durbin knew the intelligence was false, that's not a diss.

So...your idea's not going to get far, I think.

28. Here are some alternative suggestions:
Let's tell the truth, whether it reflects well or poorly on candidates, every day of the week.

Let's just leave the propaganda behind and be honest.

Let's field candidates that we can be honest about without having to "diss" them.

Let's distinguish between general respect for a person's humanity, and dislike of and/or disagreement with their record or credentials as a candidate.

Let's not try to silence opposition.

How do those suggestions suit ya?

31. who's "truth?"
Let's take the latest thread on Clinton featuring the piece from Greg Palast that's full of "people tell me" and "anonymous souces say" - styled prose.

Is THAT truth?

34. Nobody's truth.
Including yours. Truth should be able to stand on her own.

If "spin" could be re-labeled "propaganda," and "truth" could be considered only those facts that can be verified, with everything else being opinion, logical fallacy, and propaganda, that would be a start.

33. Too bad it can't be everyday, but great idea.
Might I suggest we all post something nice about every one of our candidates on that day as well, so that some people here with candidates they dislike know they have positives--and definitely their positives outweigh the Republican candidates negatives.
