I am leaving DU under the username of "Clarkie1"
For those of you interested, there are several reasons for this.

1. I don't represent Clark, and I don't want it to be interpreted that I am some kind of "leader" for a Clark group. I'm not. I'm simply an 04' supporter of Clark's who was inspired for the first time to get involved in politics...both for Clark and for a local congressional race, because of Clark.

2. The username is a problem because when people see it the automatically make prejudicial assumptions that the only thing I care about is somehow promoting Clark, which is untrue.

3. I don't know if Clark is running. This is the least important reason for leaving this username. I hope Clark does run, but even if he doesn't I know he will continue to serve our country and the Democratic Party well. In any case, if he runs or not I won't be going back to the username of "Clarkie1"

I will return to DU after some time, as a "newbie." You won't know who I am, and I prefer it that way. I don't want any more predjudicial assumptions made. I am basically on honest person, so I just wanted to let everyone know my intentions, although I don't know if it really matters all that much.

Take care people and try to be nice to each other even if you can't be nice to all the politicians.

37. Think that's bad?
I worked on the Gary Hart campaign. I made phone calls to people who mostly laughed at me. One day, I parked my car in a parking lot and somebody parked next to me. He motioned for me to come look at his bumper sticker. It said "Hart for President". Then he looked at me and said "There are two of us"!

There's an IMPEACHMENT aborning. MANY, MANY midwives (and okay, midhusbands) AND birth/prenatal coaches needed to nurse it to successful conclusion. 'Cause we're finally starting to make headway - and you have played quite a role in it! Take care, okay?

5. Ahem. The "assumptions" are not "prejudicial." You INVITE those presumptions with that username.
Edited on Fri May-04-07 08:42 PM by Redstone
I think this is a good move on your part, but don't be blaming everyone else for the fights you've gotten into.

Your posts, not your username, invited those fights. Just some friendly advice.

8. 'you INVITE those presumptions with that username'
I politely disagree, Redstone.

I know totally how Clarkie1 feels. I, too, supported Clark in '04 until he withdrew, and I know since people can't SEE us on DU their damn prejudices go to one of the two things they can attack other than the post, and that is the avatar or the user name.

I find it petty and childish to assume Clarkie1 just has promotion of Clark on their mind every post. That is a low watt brain working that would assume that, and I believe it's a misnomer to say Clarkie1 is inviting the treatment.

My user name is just an honorary thing I did for all those who died speaking out for PEACE and love of fellow man as my Lord taught, and I've been assailed for being a wacko for believing in Christ and asked why I don't just climb up on the cross, etc... There's some really unstable folks on DU, so I sympathize with Clarkie1. We've endured 7 years of hellish government under georgie and people are so bitter that we seem to attack fellow Democrats on here more than attacking the right wingers.

15. Christ, (forgive me), I'd never have thought of calling you anything like that because of
your username. In fact, I'd not even have associated that name with you being a Christian; I'd think it might have stood for all those who were martyred in the cause of civil rights, religious and other freedoms throughout the ages. That's how I'd interpret it, even if nobody else might.

In case you don't know, I am not religious, but I do try to live my life in accordance with the teachings of the Big Guy...his REAL teachings, such as tolerance, charity, and peace, not the corrupted bullshit that the rightwingers twist his words into.

I'd NEVER criticise anyone for any religious belief (except for those asshole Scientologists, because that's not an actual religion). But I do stand by my contention that anyone who will deny the health danger of depleted uranium "because Clark said it's not a problem, so that must be true" is inviting a backlash.

It's NOT just his username. Trust me on this.

And, in parting, may I point out that anyone who gives you crap about YOUR username is just ignorant, and you shouldn't worry about them. And if they get out of hand with you, send them to me and I'll adjust their attitude for them.

i always saw it more of a nickname of yours, or maybe your real name was clark and clarkie was a nickname. (just so you know you certainly don't have to go to the trouble of starting over or changing your name for me.) (not that you would!) (smile)

Don't go changing, to try and please me
You never let me down before
Don't imagine you're too familiar
And I don't see you anymore
I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times
I'll take you just the way you are

did you just not come back as a "newbie" without all the drama. What is with people that have to give a damn sad tale of woe as to why they just cannot handle some criticism on a message board and make their grand finale announcement.

12. Over the years I have always wondered about that,
why people leave a message board with such a big announcement. I know that sometimes it is because they want to be begged not to go. Even with a username change there will probaly be some people who would recognize who the poster had been called previously because of their posts about certain issues or their style.

22. Then
why not just ask people not be so judgmental about a user name? No we have to go on and on with the drama about how they cannot take it here anymore and for their own sanity must leave. And this is about the 4th or 5th one in about a month. There is definitely a pattern.

He states he is changing is username and that no one will know who he is. Well that is as good as leaving. To top it off, I have read many of his posts(most of which I liked) and do not understand the big need to go off and make some big announcement to let everyone know that you are taking your ball and going home. BTW I do care and I will reply.

posts from the OP. With regard to donating to DU, I know I should, but every time I am on the verge of donating to DU, I wind up giving that money to an actual Democratic candidate instead (last time it was Kucinich because, while I don't think he can win, I think he needs to stay in the race to keep raising those important issues that only he seems willing to raise). I suppose that's wrong, but I'm wired funny that way.

40. Well done; with time most of us change
This is not a dismissal of your affiliations, but rather praise that your interests are not as narrow as suggested by your soon-to-be-previous moniker.

As you know, I'm an Edwards partisan and have tussled endlessly with the extremists among the Clark camp who seem insatiable in their efforts to undercut Edwards' efforts.

Please take this with a feeling of camaraderie; you are redefining yourself in what you consider to be a more accurate mode, and that's something far too few people ever do as times change.

The primary season is already upon us and it'll be at least as rancorous as the one in late '03 and early '04. Since the stampede is obvious to force a decision even earlier than before, we're already in the thick of it.

What's best for the human race is what's best; petty affiliations plague us all, and I'm as guilty as many whom I've hectored.

Good move. Hope all's well.
