The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will soon be making a final
decision on whether to allow destructive drift gillnet and longline fishing
into a critical habitat area along the U.S. west coast for the Pacific
leatherback.
We need your help in the following ways to distribute our new brochure and
spread the word on what people can do to ensure these protections remain in
place :
Leaflet Organize a couple of friends to go to an event or other public area
with high foot traffic and pass out our brochure to let people know how they
can help protect sea turtles along the U.S. west coast;
Table Organize or share a table at community events such as fairs, farmer’s
markets and festivals or at stores, libraries or shopping centers, to include
our new brochure and other educational materials.
By doing this you will also be helping numerous other marine species such as
whales, dolphins, sea lions and seabirds, all who fall victim to
entanglement, hooking and drowning by these fishing gears.
Please contact karen@seaturtles.org for further information or for copies of
our brochure.
Your continued support and effort to protect leatherbacks along the U.S.
west coast is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
