First, you might (or might not) want to read the first part of this column, which was written by the wife of Newsweek's' editor Mike Isikoff ... but I particularly direct your attention to the part the late David Halberstam wrote a just few years ago about the state of journalism in America.
One thing I need to call your attention to is that it was FRED RYAN -- who is the Chief Operating Officer of ALLBRITTON Co. and happens to be chairman of the board of the Reagan library -- who selected CHRIS MATTHEWS to moderate the Republican debate.
The reason that FRED RYAN gave for selecting Chris Matthews is that Matthews is a "reliable partner"!!
Holy Cow, a major press person is now KNOWN to be a "reliable partner" of the rightwing in this country -- and no one even seems to notice, care OR object.
I would also remind everyone that the ALLBRITTON Company and ALLBRITTON family had MAJOR TIES to the infamous Chilean dictator AUGUSTO PINOCHET, "whose government murdered or tortured an estimated 3,000 political opponents over 17 years."
The ALLBRITTON Company and the ALLBRITTON family also have CLOSE TIES to the Bush family, especially Bush's uncle Jonathan Bush -- and, indeed, to George W. Bush himself.
FRED RYAN, who selected Chris Matthews to moderate the Republican debate -- because Chris is a "reliable partner" -- is an executive at the ALLBRITTON Company, and chairman of the board at the Reagan Library.
Oh, and I should mention that ALLBRITTON Co. (friend to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, Ronald Reagan and the Bush family) is the Big Money behind the new political website Politico.com, where Jim VandeHei, John Harris, and Mike Allen spew their rightwing garbage.
Politico.com is a fascist rag -- do not believe a word you read there. Yes, they will tread carefully at first until they get fully established but then, look out -- here come the brown shirts.
