I noticed during the Reagan administration that people were openly saying they were racist. They'd follow by saying things like "everybody's racist" or "At least I admit it". Some very ugly things come out of the closet when Republicans are in the White House.

Their overt racism will not be tolerated by most Americans. Many, yes, but sometimes it takes something this insidiously nasty to wake people up to that which they've just taken in stride for too long.
