Has this been posted? "I have decided to run again for the United States Senate!"
Edited on Thu May-10-07 07:45 PM by babsbunny
As I stood on the Senate floor recently, calling on President Bush to change course in Iraq and start bringing our troops home, I realized that this President has had his way for so long, with a subservient rubber-stamp Republican Congress, that he must be challenged day after day on his destructive policies. What's more, we know that it will take years to restore America as a country of hope, opportunity, and fairness, once again regaining our place as a moral world leader.

That's why I am writing to let you know, with deep commitment and excitement, that I have decided to run again for the United States Senate!

I can promise you, the radical right-wing forces that support the status quo will come after me -- in fact they already are. Because I am a leader on ending the Iraq war (and never voted for it in the first place), because I am pushing hard to pass meaningful global warming legislation as Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, because I am the author of the bill to keep Roe v. Wade the law of the land, and because I am not afraid of their attack dogs, I am a prime target of the right-wing machine.

That's where you come in. I need you now more than ever before -- to kick-off our campaign with a fundraising drive that is so strong, and so broad, that the radical right-wing knows we're gearing up to fight.

Help me get my 2010 re-election campaign off to a strong start -- please contribute today!

I wear these right-wing attacks as a badge of honor because I learned early on that their goal is to put fear in the hearts of those of us who will tell the truth, as I did on this war -- truth to power. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Michael Savage may spew their venom, but with you by my side, their virulent attacks just fall away.

Remember when I told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that "your loyalty to the mission you were given, to sell this war, overwhelmed your respect for the truth?" Well click here to listen to Bill O'Reilly's diatribe in response.

I call this to your attention just so you hear an example of the attacks, distortions, and lies the right-wing throws my way. With you by my side, they can't defeat me -- much to their dismay -- even though they try to tear me down every time I run. But I need your help to keep fighting back.

Help me fight back against the right-wing attacks that are coming our way -- please contribute today!

Today, I am launching my first major online fundraising drive for my 2010 campaign. In recent years, many of you have responded to my appeals as I asked you to help so many Senate candidates -- which was critical in our fight to take back the Senate. But today I am doing something hard for me -- hard but necessary. I am asking you to help me, right away, as we get our 2010 campaign off on the right foot.

If we wait, our job becomes that much harder, because in California it takes so many resources to deter a tough race. It is imperative to start early. Plus, raising money online means we don't need to do as many expensive and time consuming offline events, so I can spend more time fighting for you in the halls of Congress.

That's why I'm launching the "10 for 10" program -- a drive to reach 10,000 donors for my 2010 re-election campaign before May 31st. I want everyone to be able to participate equally, whether you can give $20 or $2000, so we've set a donor goal, not a dollar goal -- but I hope you'll give as generously as you can afford. "10 for 10" is a bold, aggressive effort to kick off my campaign in style and put all of my potential right-wing opponents on notice.

Become one of the special founders of my 2010 online re-election effort by joining the "10 for 10" program -- please contribute today!

I want to recognize every single online donor who contributes to our "10 for 10" drive before May 31st. So we're creating a special page on my new campaign website, www.BarbaraBoxer.com, that will list the names of every "10 for 10" donor -- the "founding members" of my re-election campaign. It's a list that I'll proudly feature on my website all the way through the 2010 election, and I hope your name will be on it.

We must get back to an America that is a land of hope, opportunity, fairness, and individual rights, respected and admired both at home and abroad. That's what I'm fighting for -- and that's why I'm asking for your help.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

P.S. Please contribute today! I want to list you as a proud member of "10 for 10" on my new BarbaraBoxer.com campaign website. Thank you so much for your continued friendship and support!

3. Thanks for posting this! I imagine we'll have a few hundred (or more)
DUers among the founding members. I will certainly send her whatever I can. A little or a lot, every dollar counts, folks. :)

Go Barbara!

4. Boxer rocks!
I am proud she's my Senator. She already has over 6,000 donors; she might make 10,000 before midnight!

Thanks for posting.

6. Two of the most admirable things...
Out of the many she's done as a senator during the last fifteen years:

In January 2005, when she co-sponsored a challenge to Ohio's electoral votes, and...

This year, when Al Gore testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee--which she now chairs--and she got to tell a bellowing, interrupting James Imhofe: "Jim, elections have consequences!":D

B-)
