Gonzales, left out to dry, kicked our whole party's ass??? |
|
I challenge anyone to explain to me how this one guy can kick our party's ass all by himself after having been thrown overboard by his own party. This defies all common sense. Even Republicans were saying he wouldn't last out the month.
Well guess what, not only is his job apparently safe now, but he has gained the balls to come to Congress and tell us to get over it.
WTF???

it is not the first time, nor the last.
They know that we have no finishing power, so they wait us out. Until the rest of our congress grows to brass ones, the kind that Nancy Pelosi seems to have, it will be dejavu all over again.

Gonzo staying isn't proof that he's strong, it shows that he and the White House are so obtuse they don't realize what a joke and an embarrasment he and they have become.

7. It will be culture shock when he is no longer the attorney toady for |
|
a preznuts and he needs to find a job! Who would hire this idiot? I would rather have one of my daughter's developmentally disabled friends as an attorney than this truly brainless fool.
As to why they can do it? If you are bound to sacrifice yourself for the cause it is hard to do anything that will stop you. However it also makes him powerless to continue to use his power to make changes. All eyes are on him now. Just like *ss, the lame duck can quack all he wants but there will be no more "patriot acts" passed in his name.

11. I respectfully disagree |

That's the same logic Bush uses about the insurgents. If the attacks decrease, it shows we are winning. If the attacks increase, it shows they are desperate because we are winning.

The repukes have has The Beltway by the procreative nodules for the last twelve years. During that time, they spent a lot of time denegrating all things Dem. They also setup a system of subtle rewards for any reporter or stringer who fed at the repuke information trough, and penalties for those who didn't. DC is, in many ways, a hidebound culture and slow to accept or effect change. That means, these reporters and stringers, who have been in the DC information market, know only their sources, who are predomanently repuke. They may not even HAVE sources on the Dem side, because they were too lazy or much the idealogue, in their own right, to groom some Dem sources.
That means that even in these times, when the repukes do not hold the reins of power, they still get their information from them. And the repukes are spinning faster than the cotton candy machine, although cotton candy has more substance than the crap the repukes are turning out.

Two weeks ago, they pulled Gonzo off their life support media machine. They ditched him cold. made him sink or swim on his own. Not even one GOPer that I recall would even say a word in this guy's favor - at least not in public.
So I ask how did we get here? We had one of his underling's pleading the 5th. The guy was cooked and everyone knew it. So why is he laughing instead of packing?

He is totally powerless to be at all effective. Why have a strong and effective AG who can help shield Bush the final year and a half.

16. Not so. They don't let up; they don't even slow down. Gonzo... |
|
...got Senator Lautenburg (D-NJ) to carry legislation allowing the AG to create a new list of "suspicious" types: you don't know how you get on it, you don't know how you get off it, there is no due process. But you cannot buy a firearm. When it comes to trimming back civil liberties, how best to deflect blame by getting a "liberal" to carry the slop bucket to deny rights which are not as equal than others. Democrats do not understand their enemy.

9. Because this committee has no teeth. |
|
I mean, it's great for posturing and showing off to the world what an incompetent bushbot this "eternal" General is, but when it's all said and done, if the WH doesn't cooperate and they can't get someone to turn, there's NOTHING this committee can do about the fired U.S. attorneys.

I believe the White House cannot fire Gonzales. If he did the current climate would require that the replacement be a truly independent and effective AG. That situation is contrary to the President's plans. Therefore a wounded, ineffectually lackey with zero credibility is preferable to the alternative. That's what has made Gonzales' job safe.

15. Very astute, Grillydad. You may have hit directly upon why Gonzo seems |
|
so safe and smug - his replacement could not be managed by Bushco, therefore, there will be no replacement.
Well done!

17. Good observation. But there is no disposition to fire... |
|
...these guys are cold steel hard; they don't break, they don't even bend and they have utter contempt for their enemies who seem to wander, muddle and mumble in a world without clear vision, policy and ideas. The far right is marked by clarity, unbending resolve and unending aggressiveness. The Democrats or any opposition which does not take these characteristic seriously and does not develop serious and clear ideas and the round-the-clock attack capability to defeat the far right will never gain and truly hold power.
The far right is also marked by very high levels of education. As was remarked upstream in this thread, they know us better than we know ourselves and have for some time.
