I hate to link to NRO. But they got a statement from Sam Brownback.

SAM BROWNBACK

Forget Whatever You Heard About Dean, Sebelius, and Brownback

I had raised an eyebrow on the huge allegations in this rumor suggesting that Kansas Gov. Sebelius had confirmed serious wrongdoing, in collusion with Howard Dean, in a conversation with Kansas Senator Sam Brownback... but Brownback's people have said there's nothing to it. The DNC and Sebelius have also offered blanket denials. The word from Brownback's campaign:

"While we cannot speak to the substance of or motivation behind these comments, we can definitively say that the portions of the story which relate to the purported conversation with Senator Brownback are *false*. No such conversation, nor any like it, ever took place between Governor Sebelius and Senator Brownback."

The gentlemen on the radio show who first mentioned this story may want to consider naming their source, since it appears the story is bunk.

Thanks to Brownback for clarifying. And a big :wtf: to the right wing bloggers who perpetrated this hoax.

1. This could use some TLC as it was a rough time for Sebelius and Dean.
Being lied about is never fun.

3. All we can do is counter the lies as they come.
We certainly cant predict what the next one will be.

Think of yourself as a political goalie. :)

I may not agree with you on most issues but that was a decent thing to do.

10. They covered themselves by saying Brownback would deny it.
That is what is in the post at the radio show site.

http://www.warroom.com/

If you say the person will deny it but your unnamed source is right...then you can say anything you want.

9. Note the time it was posted at NRO
and note the time I posted this post. Yeh, I'm a night owl, especially since I retired.

It was posted there at 05/11 02:29 PM

Took all that time for it to show on a google blog search, and then only the words brownback, sebelius.

Close to 12 hours. The radio show still has the post up and so does Free Republic.

And there is nothing on the left at all.. people seem terrified to address it. That is what one radio host with unnamed sources can do. They can shut up the left blogosphere over fear they are right, and we are too afraid to trust the leaders in our party we should trust.

And people indicate oh no the DNC should never have threatened. Why? Because they might fail? Why are we so fearful.

11. TN Guerilla Women blog rips the right wing on this. Great post. Good blog.
http://guerillawomentn.blogspot.com/2007/05/rightwing-desperation-howard-dean-and.html

"Rightwing Desperation, Howard Dean and the Vast Leftwing Conspiracy "

"The Democratic National Committee has filed two cease-and-desist letters in response to claims made by those bastions of make-believe, FreeRepublic and XM radio.

Rightwingers are charging that there is a vast leftwing conspiracy to make Bush appear to be an incompetent moron who is endangering the nation.

Gee, what will the Left think of next?"

As if a VLW conspiracy were needed to make Bush look incompetent.

Kudos to a great post.

:applause:

15. Never mind about "what's going on"
with Dean and Sebelius~..I just found this on buzzflash..

"The website FreeRepublic.com, citing an XM radio show, said Thursday that "Dean called Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius early, around 5 am, one morning after the tornado had destroyed the town of Greensburg, Kansas and discussed with her what to say about the tornado and how to blame the war in Iraq and the Bush administration on a slow response to the aftermath."

http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Democrats_send_cease_and_desist_to_0511.html

Anyone who had an ounce of gawdamn sense would know this wasn't true! Anyone who knew of Dean and his work and his character would know it's a fucking lie by fucking freepers who have NOTHING so they have to make up shite.

Thank you, Senator Brownback for speaking the truth on this.

Because we all know how the corporatemediawhores love the fuck to tear Dean down and a Democratic Governor with him?..HELL YEAH!

16. My main gripe is that the left bloggers ignored it.
Media Matters took it up, and I posted. No one should have believed any of it to be true.

I posted this from Media Matters. Mostly though, it has been totally ignored. McJoan at Kos had one paragraph. MyDD had nothing. A couple of smaller bloggers covered it. That's about it.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1313

You are right...no one should have believed.

I would be willing to donate to the DNC if they pursue the Quinn Rose thing where it started. They might be able to prove something there...sounds like they pulled it out of their you know what.

17. I hope Dean & Sebelius sue them
off the air. What? Did james matatlin carville start the rumor to get Dean shitcanned? Wouldn't put it past his strategizin' ass.

Hey! quinn and rose..heads up! We don't need no stinkin' cordinating on what's happening because bush started a war On Iraq based on his neoCON Lies' men and condi. We don't need to coordinate on the trouble it's causing for our states to be without their National Guard when Mother Nature's intense weather patterns result in catastrophic conditions! We just need the corporate media Whores to report it accurately.

18. Powerline blog is being a smartass and saying sue us sue us.
Where do they get this mentality? They think it is funny for a radio host to make stuff up and spread lies about a tragic event in Kansas.

They have no conscience anymore.

Like I said..The DNC lawyers need to sue their ass and get it out in the open and then we'll see.

This can only be good for reality.

19. They just keep on blogging it on the right.
And nothing from our side. Well, this post and a couple of bloggers. They all seem unaware of Brownback's statement. If a major blogger carried a statement from Brownback...it might get around more. I never did understand why we can't stand up for our own.

Here is a link to blogs from Ask Jeeves search. They just go on and on about it.

20. Brownback contacts Powerline blog says the phone call never happened.
Edited on Mon May-14-07 01:20 AM by madfloridian
Powerline blog gets on its high horse. Gets defensive and blames the DNC for standing up against the lies. How did our country get to this point?

http://powerlineblog.com/archives/017629.php

"A note from the Brownback campaign

We have heard directly from the Brownback campaign in response to my post "To the DNC: Sue us." The Brownback campaign writes:

Just to be clear, the call between Sebelius and Brownback never happened. I don't know what the source here is, but the existence of the phone call has been fabricated out of thin air.

I don't know what the source here is either and I take the denials of the DNC and the Brownback campaign at face value. My point is not an endorsement of the truth of the statements made by Jim Quinn that were related on Free Republic. If Jim Quinn made up the story, that is reprehensible.

My point is that the DNC letter threatening Free Republic with a defamation lawsuit on behalf of the Democratic National Committee is an act of thuggery, akin to the threats that faced Sinclair broadcasting at the end of the 2004 campaign. The DNC's threat against Free Republic is not well grounded under the First Amendment and the DNC's warm-up for the 2008 campaign should be stuffed now."

And the left bloggers are just ignoring it. Amazing.

21. The only new thing today....nice post from Kansas.
I am surprised Media Matters doesn't do updates when something is debunked. I thought they did.

Found this, but nothing else much at all.

http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2007/05/sebelius_can_sp.html

"The Quinn & Rose Show, a right-wing radio program, claimed last week that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius had been ordered by Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean to criticize the readiness of National Guard units to score political points against President Bush. It also claimed that Sebelius called Sen. Sam Brownback and apologized for having to do this dirty work for the party. The allegation was then repeated by other conservative radio programs.

...."Sebelius issued a statement saying that allegation was "100 percent false" and that she is "outraged" at the suggestion that she made Greensburg comments based on anything other than "my responsibilities as commander in chief of the Kansas National Guard."

Moreover, Brownback’s office reportedly said the call "never happened" and was "fabricated out of thin air." And a DNC attorney wrote in a cease-and-desist letter to Quinn & Rose and to an Internet site that "Dean had no such conversation with Gov. Sebelius, ever."

Of course, that won’t stop the conspiracy theorists from issuing more hot air. What a perfect storm of rubbish."

22. And now the DNC and Dean are buying sued by
a person from the GLBT community who was fired when Dean reorganized the minority groups into one desk. It was two years ago.

His partner was sending out letters urging people not to donate to the DNC. That was not nice.

And now the right wing blogs are saying the DNC will get theirs.

What a place we have come to in this country.

23. Brownback has some scruples
I HATE his social politics, but his work for the poor and saying that Christian politics must mean fighting for the least of these is almost radical for an evangelical Republican. He also has co-authored some good bills with Democrats. He's not a total sell-out. I've seen this kind of thing with him before. He came through with honesty to the detriment of the far-right and that says a lot.
