St. Petersburg Times makes case for President Obama
the paper is profiling different candidates.
This week they take a look at Barack Obama and the presidency

In recent weeks, we have been trying to make the case for how each major 2008 presidential contender could win. These aren't predictions or endorsements, mind you, just food for thought. This week, Democrat Barack Obama.

Name one of our state senators. Mike Fasano? Charlie Justice? Victor Crist? Now imagine him winning the White House in four years.

Nutty as it sounds, that's precisely the career trajectory Barack Obama is on the way to accomplishing. Anyone who underestimates the Illinois senator's prospects at winning the presidency isn't paying close attention.

The first-term U.S. senator who talks in paragraphs more than sound bites is actually keeping up in fundraising with the titan, Hillary Clinton. He's built a formidable campaign organization and generating more grass-roots excitement than anyone.

1. Excellent article... and it's an easy choice: Obama or the past?

3. Obama may bring to the polls hundreds of thousands who have not before voted......
That would be a sight to behold! I can just imagine a sea of those new voters getting in line to vote! Those who decided that a way of responding to those who keeps telling all of us that the only "electable" candidates are White Guys from the South, is to take action! Standing in line to vote would be a perfect "kiss my ass, shove "electibility" up yours, and thank you very much" moment.

6. Your post gave me the chills.
This could potentially be a very powerful time in our lives and in our party and country's history.

I'm not sure how I feel about saying this, whether it's sad or excited, but I'm *counting* on those new voters you speak of to come out and seize the opportunity and make it happen. On the one hand, that in of itself is an exciting scenario. But on the other hand, it makes me a little sad that I honestly don't feel right now that I could count on the registered Dem voters to rise to the challenge to be brave enough to vote for someone other than the 'electable' guy.

2. That's great for Obama, but..
IMO this is way too early for this. From where I am (in Iowa), Obama seems to be picking up steam (a few polls aside)...but it only takes one slip up for all that to change.

5. Busted! Ok, so I didnt read the article..
Either way, glad to see Obama getting good press.

A lot of the doubts I hear about Obama are just because they don't know him...they've heard him speak, and he is a hell of an orator..and then they buy into the 'all presentation-no substance' RW talking point. Hopefully some good, detailed press will turn some of these doubters into supporters.

I'm awaiting another candidate's decision to run/not run, and him aside I am very undecided...but I am beginning to look more favorably toward Obama then the other front-runners at this point.
