AM Epiphany- I'm not a "Deanie" I'm a Democrat |
|
Having been an active an enthusiastic Dean supporter, I planned to vote for Dean in the March 3 election. This morning I woke up knowing I would vote for Kerry, the frontrunner, and future nominee.
I am not here to debate whether Kerry is the best man. I'm not here to debate where he stands on IWR, Patriot Act, or anything else.
All I know is that the Rovian dirty tricks have started, and I want to be part of defending the democratic nominee from those attacks.
I'm falling in line. I am really surprised that it happened like a flash.
I'm fully in the Kerry camp.
Howard Dean and Joe Trippi have given the Democratic party a voice against the "War President". Dean's campaign, and Clark's campaign, have pulled the string of the unraveling Bush empire.
But Kerry will be the nominee. I'll spend the next few weeks getting my head around Kerry's position on all of the issues, and will use that knowledge to fend off any and all attacks. I am a soldier. I did not pick my leader. But I will follow him loyaly.

Howard Dean stood up for us who opposed the Iraq War, NCLB, and irresponsible tax cuts. I will stand up for him on my Primary. There is no way I'm voting for Kerry in the Primary.

I realize that by the time we get to vote it will probably be all over. I'm tempted to give Clark my vote, but I want to see a strong victory for Kerry in March so I'll vote for him.

28. Why do you want to hand Kerry a nomination he did nothing to earn? |
|
If we got to the end of this road in July and he legitmately had the most delegates, that would be one thing. But from state to state it is becoming increasingly more evident that people are not voting their conscience or their true values, but are instead falling for this con that the weakest candidate in the pack is "the only one who can beat Bush".
Why are so many of you mortals falling for it? I know it's not stupidity, or you would be voting for Bush. Fear, maybe? Honestly, this isn't meant as a slam on anyone, I just don't fucking get it. This guy Kerry offers nothing. He has nothing to run on, has accomplished very little in the Senate and has spent the last 3 years voting FOR all of Bush's crap.
Could somebody please tell the Devil, apart from media hype and bullshit corporate polls, what qualifies Kerry to be the nominee, because I haven't been this confused since God made me crawl on my belly in the dust back in Eden :evilfrown:

32. No answer would satisfy you |
|
Kerry has a 35+ year record and history of Public Service and you have decided he has accomplished nothing, and that he offers nothing.
Kerry is the overwhelming choice of the voters in 12 of the 14 primaries so far, yet you insist he has nothing to run on. Or that people are just stupid sheeple and allowing the media or bullshit corporate polls to choose for them.
Apparently, the measure of intelligence is whether people pick your candidate or not. As you say, the more people vote for Kerry from state to state, the more people MUST not be voting their conscience or their true values, because they are not voting for YOUR candidate.
There is nothing one could say to relieve you of this self imposed confusion you profess to have.

17. I'm trying to understand further. If you like Dean better than Kerry, why |
|
vote for Kerry?
Why march off to the polls simply to reaffirm the already inevitable groupthink? Isn't Kerry going to win regardless? Does it make you feel better to have supported the man Iowans (and the media before them) picked for you with your vote?
Why?
Do the Repuke attacks make Kerry seem more electable to you? I mean, isn't that supposedly Kerry's biggest selling point?

The original post was a comprehensive and sensible response to those questions. You don't have to agree with it, and neither does Stickdog, but her answers are already there for you to see. Vote for whoever you want in the primaries, for whatever reasons you want, and please respect the rights of others to do the same.

I alerted the Mods about the purge thread as soon as I saw it, and I'd be proud if I knew that I was the one who got it locked. I was probably only one of dozens of Alerts, however. I have no respect for that approach, and in fact I recently started a thread to that effect (A Question for Kerry supporters and a question for Kerry detractors). Among the points I made in that thread was that one instance of bad behavior does nothing to justify another.

Meaning that there actually are answers that would satisfy you that mgdecombe has every right to do as she pleases and that her point of view is as valid for her as yours is for you?
Gracious, whatever could those answers possibly be?
You asked why she decided to vote for Kerry. Her whole post was about why she decided to vote for Kerry. I was under the impression that you were merely trying to attack her decision and ridicule it. If you're really trying to have a conversation, perhaps you could clarify this point.

care more about being with the front runner than standing up for your principles. If you support Howard Dean on the issues and he made you proud to be a Democrat when other Democrats including a great many in our party in Washington were enabling Bush I don't know why you are sacrificing your vote just because John Kerry is coming under attack. Howard Dean came under months of intense attack and the party chairman didn't raise a finger for him. Kerry is a big boy and if there is nothing to these internet rumors then he can easily defend himself. It is up to you but if I believed in a candidate (and I do) I will support him with my vote and then when the nominee is chosen will close ranks.

and I am a Democrat. The two are not mutually exclusive. I would like to point out that the Rovian attacks started months ago. In fact, the target was Dean at that time and not Kerry. We should be defending all our candidates from such attacks.
If Kerry is able to withstand a media onslaught and it happens before super Tuesday, he might get my vote. If he can show that he can take a load of negative press and still be popular then I will probably be sufficiently impressed with his 'electability'. Until then, I don't see a difference in 'electability' between the current top candidates (two are untested in the matter of dealing with a media negative fest)and Dean's positions most closely reflect my own. I don't see this being in conflict with being a Democrat or wanting to win the GE in any way. When the time comes we will unite .. that time isn't here yet. I think your attitude is great, but it seems a bit early.

Wes Clark helped pound it through my dense skull when he moved to endorse Kerry so soon after withdrawing. If the guys we want can't make it, we have to back the guy who will. If I put it this way: will I support, Bush, the Democrat, or a third party candidate, I chose the Democrat, and I reluctantly had to a concede that the process this year, flawed as it definitely is, is delivering Kerry as that Democrat.
I have shifted from being primarily Pro-Clark, to Anti-Bush, with Kerry as the means to oust the Shrub. Such is life it seems.

43. How republican of you to vote lock step! |
|
You have a chance to vote for someone you believe in but you will throw it away to be on the 'winning' side. Sorry but that is sick. Why are the Dem's allowing the media to decide who should represent them in in the Presidential race? This is the time to vote with your heart, after the primaries that is when you vote with your head. I am firmly ABB, but I will have my say in my primary on Tuesday.
After this is over we need to have a serious look at how we run our selection process. From what I've read he the cacus process needs to go the way of the dinosaurs and maybe we need to hold the count on the primary votes until all the states are finished.
(I seriously suspect that you were never a deaniac)

|
You have a chance to vote for someone you now know will lose so instead you will vote for the guy most likely to beat Bush. That is wonderful. This isn't the time to vote with your heart but with your head, because the Bush administration represents the most serious threat this country has ever faced.
After this is over we will once again see how our primary process demonstrated the will of the voter and NOT the will of a few disgruntled idealogues.
