Current list of Senators and Reps. supporting Hillary...so they can be trashed all at once...
Edited on Mon May-14-07 06:46 PM by SaveElmer

Since I imagine it is time consuming for people to trash those endorsing Hillary piecemeal...

49. I have a real question for you and I'm seriously not flaming you
but, how much do you think she'll lose Alabama by? Because there's no way on this earth she'll win it.

My thought is that we should put up a candidate who may not WIN in Alabama or Georgia or Mississippi, but would be competitive enough where the RNC will have to spend money in some Southern states and pull it away from more swing states (BTW, just so you know, I don't see that we have a candidate of this nature in our so-called front-runners, so it's not just HRC that would have this problem.)

It won't even be a contest with her as our nominee in those states (and more).

Again, this is NOT a flame. This is reality asking a question.

52. To be completely honest,
at this early date in the campaigns, I don't have a clue to any of the questions you ask.

I'm sure you're basing your assumptions on past voting trends..... however, I feel & I'll stress, I do not know or predict, but feel, voting trends could possibly change..... or maybe not.

After 6-8 years of this administration, I'm not sure what to expect. I think a lot of people have had all they want of conservative leadership. I have heard and believe there will be more people voting for a Democrat..... maybe.

I do disagree regarding HRC. If she is the nominee, I believe there will be more of a contest in many states than we've seen in a while.

In 5-6 months, the reality should be a little more clear.

22. Have to disagree, troubleinwinter
The first two threads, I thought, "Pfffft". But by the third, the scales had fallen from my eyes. I realize now that all my political convictions are trifles. I'm now a Clinton supporter.

Furthermore, I realize now that those who do not support Clinton's candidacy - wretched apostates like I was until today - are merely:

  • "haters"

  • "bashers"

  • jealous

  • misogynists

  • wild-eyed fringe radicals dooming the Democratic Party to permanent minority status

  • and let's not forget: "naive"

Get with the program, my friend. Life is so much easier now that I have all the answers. I'm going to try the Senator's famous cookie recipe next, after I check to make sure no-one's burning my flag.

32. 18 months out from the election, I just find the candidate-pimping absurd
Clinton has my vote if she's the nominee, BTW - I've voted for candidates I have little real enthusiasm for, if the alternatives are even less inspiring, or worse, Republicans. But frankly, the Senator is about as inspiring as a dirty gym sock.

I'd be defensive if I had anything to defend in these little navel-gazing sessions. All I want is a Democrat in the White House in '08. Lots of good ones to choose from, at least...

38. No, it sounds like someone is on to you...
And your win-at-any-cost tactics when it comes to defending St. Hillary.

In Arizona's primary, she won't be getting my vote. If she happens to win the nomination, though, she will get my vote in the GE.

Yet her supporters here - including you - have, on numerous occasions, accused me and others of "hating" Senator Clinton.

NEWSFLASH: Just because someone isn't getting my primary vote doesn't mean I hate them.

Otherwise, to be fair, you'd have to accuse me of hating John Kerry and all the other 2004 contenders besides Howard Dean.

BTW, if you want to make sure DUers don't ever vote for Senator Clinton, continue to accuse them of being paranoid and hateful. In short, just keep on doing what you're doing. I can't believe you guys think these tactics are endearing us to Hillary's candidacy. :eyes:

42. Two reasons why you shouldn't base your vote on a candidates supporters..
1:It's stupid and shallow.

2:What if swaying your vote from said candidate is what they wanted all along?

For the record - I don't believe for one second that SaveElmer is trying to accomplish the second objective...and that only leaves option 1.

53. I never said I was. Don't put words in my mouth.
Please point to where I claimed the supporters of a candidate would determine my vote, because my memory's pretty good and I don't ever remember saying anything of the kind.

"1:It's stupid and shallow."

Agreed, but I shouldn't be the target of this - I made up my mind not to vote for Senator Clinton in the primaries a long time ago.

"2:What if swaying your vote from said candidate is what they wanted all along?"

With the way the Hillary supporters keep acting, it wouldn't surprise me to find a couple of them were trying to do exactly that. Accusing others of hate, worshipping a candidate like a god and generally being intolerant and petulant when faced with disagreement does not seem like it would be a winning tactic.

Don't be silly. The vast preponderance of DUers hold exactly the same position I do - NO to Hillary in the primaries, YES if she's in the General Election. Did we "hate" John Kerry too?

You can't come up with a single instance of "hate" or "bile" and you know it. You whine and play the victim when in reality, it's the Hillary supporters who break the rules all the time with insults and personal attacks, with tacit approval of certain moderators.

I am reminded of what happened to me in the 90's I think might be relevant here. Everyone I knew said they Didn't vote vote Mr. Clinton and couldn't understand how he became President. My response was always the same "well If no one voted for Mr. Clinton, I must be a very important person, because I voted for him and he's Presdient!" I hope the same holds true for Mrs. Clinton.

36. The Iraq War has many fathers, and one of them is named Tom Lantos
This is what Lantos told his Knesset pal in Israel:

October 25, 2002

Lantos' Big Lie:

The Pro-War Congressman Calls for Replacing Saddam with a Pro-West "Dictator"

by BEN TERRALL

California Congressman Tom Lantos has never been accused of understatement. But he may have set a new personal record for bombast when, as quoted in the September 30, 2002 edition of the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz, he told Minister of Knesset Colette Avital, "My dear Colette, you won't have any problem with Saddam. We'll be rid of the bastard soon enough. And in his place we'll install a pro-Western dictator, who will be good for us and for you."

After U.S. activists publicized the story, Lantos called it a "total fabrication". He added, "I am amused by the comments Ha'aretz attributes to me, because they fly in the face of my lifetime of work. I am a firm supporter of democracy."

Since I have been working with Lantos' anti-war/pro-civil liberties challenger Maad Abu-Ghazalah, I e-mailed MK Colette Avital for clarification. I received the following response:

" I can confirm that the story is accurate. In fact, I myself was surprised and pained by Congressman Lantos' comments. Since he is a friend of Israel and I have had a long friendship with him, I did not want to react to his denial, or to further embarrass him. Sincerely, Colette Avital, M.K."

but I've always admired that about Hillary. Good people on that list; I've given $ and manpower to a couple.

43. Here, this might help
Drag this around to complete the martyr routine:

I don't much care for the candidate bashing but until I see Hillary supporters foregoing opportunities to bash others, I can't have a whole lot of sympathy.

You may want to re-think your (whiney) approach to this.

Just sayin'

48. Wow! Look at all the blue-bubble people!
Look, I don't bash Hillary - I don't dislike her, but I simply don't think she can win because she won't have the support to flip any red or purple states.

I mean, look at the list above. With the exception of a couple of people in Florida and Texas (and one in Ohio), there's not much by the way of broad appeal there.

I'll even hold my nose and vote for her in a general election, knowing that she'll still lose my purple state by 20 percent, but I don't expect much out of her, particularly if Fred Thompson is the nominee (and if he is, she'll lose my state by more than 30 percent).
