Biden/IAFF
I think Biden has a great chance of landing the IAFF endorsement. According to First Read this past friday he was the most well received candidate. He could really use this endorsement, it would be huge. Does anyone else think he gets it over Hillary?

1. Well I heard Hillary was pretty well received...
As was Edwards...Obama not so much...

I have to think they will give it to someone they view as competitive...Hillary or Edwards...my guess would be Hillary...

No knock on Biden, I think he was great in that last debate...I've always been a fan of his, but he is so far back in the pack right now its hard to see it going that way...but you never know!

2. And it's so early
When the flame-out begins for the over-rated Obama and Hillary, it's wide open. When people start paying attention it may already be. Biden will be the experience the country needs waiting in the wings.

3. Competitive is the key
If Biden can show that he can be competitive than I think he gets the endorsement. Here is his speech to the IAFF in March, it is long but definitely worth watching especially for all of the Biden haters. It is a great speech from a candidate who really knows his stuff and cares about unions and the average guy.

Biden Speech

I also agree that when people start taking a hard look and asking questions like Which candidate has a real plan for Iraq?, Biden will be at the top. The cream of the crop always rises.

7. Thanks
Thanks for posting that. That shows Biden at his best. As he joked (as quoted in the Boston Globe yesterday):

"Hey, I used to be Barack...Last time I was the charismatic young guy who could make an audience laugh or cry."

Biden's a lot wiser these days, a fair few years older too, but he is still capable of really moving people with his words.

I am a proud supporter of Joe Biden for President. This video helps explain why.

4. Biden has a lot of appeal
for working class and lower middle class Americans. He's got the regular guy thing.

8. I think it will become more possible as time goes on
Biden moves much closer to the front. I think he has a somewhat better chance in the GE than the primaries, unless something shakes up big before then. On this particular endorsement, anecdotally, I have four nephews who are NYC firemen and they all like Biden. None of them is particularly politics-minded, just regular guys who see something of themselves in him, or of their fathers or uncles, when they've watched him on TV. I don't imagine them unique nationwide. I've often thought Biden might appeal to cross-over voters and Reagan Dems, as well.

9. Biden should move up in the polls
I am floored that he is not getting more attention. In my opinion he is our best candidate out of those running hands down. Nobody in this field matches his foreign policy expertise and he has a great knowledge of all the other issues. He is also extremely charismatic and has a toughness about him. I dont see him putting up with the soft on terror card the Repubs always play. I also dont see it sticking to him. I urge everyone on this board to think long and hard about Biden, he could pull this off but he needs to start moving up NOW. Just because the media says it can only be Hillary, Obama, and maybe Edwards doesnt mean another candidate cant catch fire.

10. If foreign policy expertise more of a qualification
And I wish it were in this primary, the top three would be Biden, Dodd and Richardson. But experience doesn't seem to be driving the race so far.

You're new here, I see. If you can take some free advice, roll back on your sales pitch, and get yourself comfy for a while. You will turn people off your candidate if you push so hard.

Welcome to DU :hi:

11. Not that new
definitely not new to politics just new to posting here instead of just reading. thanks for the advice and the welcome. Its just hard not to press the issue when a great candidate is so low in the polls.

5. Biden stole the show
at the IAFF meeting a few weeks ago. He spoke last and really brought the house down. Biden is capable of that. He can move people, and has a great rhetorical range. He was very impressive. Whether or not the IAFF will hand him that prized endorsement is uncertain. He certainly deserves it. Biden's support for the Firefighters (and vice versa) goes back a long long way.

The question is: will they see him as a viable candidate for the nomination?

Another question is: would their endorsement help MAKE Biden a viable candidate for the nomination?

It certainly would be a massive boost.
