John Edwards Campaign Announces Women for Edwards Web Page
From an e-mail received from Elizabeth Edwards:

I am so proud that today in Iowa, John is announcing the launch of our new group: Women for Edwards. Women from across the country—elected officials, community leaders, workers, political activists, mothers, daughters, sisters—have added their voices to the campaign.

Today, I'm asking you to join us. Please help me by sending this email on to your sister, your mother, a friend or any woman you know who might be interested in joining our campaign. Tell them the news about Women for Edwards, and let them know we need their voice.

3. Good deal. Not a female, but womens issues are very important.
I'm glad John Edwards has a group in his campaign dedicated to addressing those issues. Women are a huge portion of our big tent that is the Democratic party!! Hats off to Edwards.

4. Kate Michelman Part of the Edwards Team
For this very reason..

My name is Kate Michelman. I was president of NARAL Pro-Choice America for nearly 20 years. I've dedicated my adult life to advancing women's dignity, freedom and equality. Today, I'm angry and alarmed about the future. And I'm ready to fight.

Yesterday, a closely divided Supreme Court voted to allow Congress and state legislators to ban a specific abortion procedure--even if the health of the woman is at grave risk and even if her doctor thinks this procedure is the best one for her particular situation. It is nothing less than the greatest blow to a woman's right to reproductive freedom since that right was first guaranteed more than 30 years ago.

In yesterday's opinion, three of the justices again argued that ALL decisions guaranteeing reproductive rights are wrong. And remember, the two Supreme Court Justices nearest to retirement are staunch defenders of women's rights--just imagine if another Republican president is allowed to replace them. You know as well as I do that the right wing won't stop at a woman's right to decide. They've painted a bulls eye on a broad range of privacy rights, civil liberties and other basic rights that we take for granted.

This is one of the most important reasons all of us--but especially women--must be fiercely committed to electing a Democratic president in 2008 who will protect and defend our rights. And that is why I am so strongly committed to electing John Edwards.

I believe that out of all the candidates, John has the strongest commitment to the issues that matter most in women's lives. I know he is the most effective national messenger for the values we share and I have complete confidence that--with our help--he can win the White House.

So today, I'm asking for your help. I need you to reach out to the women and men you know who believe in the rights and liberties of women and are ready to join this campaign and help us defend them.

11. Likewise
Two daughters, a wife, and a mom with whom he is very close to.

This is what he said on Mother's Day:

"I could not have gotten to where I am today without my mother Bobbi. She worked hard so I could get ahead. She instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance and I am so grateful. I am also thankful to have such a wonderful woman as a partner. Elizabeth continues to amaze me every day.

"Today, let's also remember all the mothers who are working hard, but struggling to provide for their kids. We need to make it easier for working mothers to balance work and family. Our mothers have given us the best and deserve the best from us."

6. Interesting analysis of upper midwestern support for Edwards
compared to Hillary. Edwards is picking up more women in Iowa, men, independents, and Republicans when compared to Hillary in a matchup against
Giuliani.

13. Email in Full:

For John and me, this campaign has always been primarily about the people who the campaign, and ultimately an Edwards administration, can reach and help. In fact the name of the group—if it wasn't too unwieldy—could be Women for Women (for Edwards).

This campaign has always had at its core the issues about which women feel passionately, and therefore it is no surprise to me that women are drawn to this campaign—both because of the emphasis on the real issues and John's commitment to improving the lives of women and families.

John's clear focus on the key issues that affect women's lives during the campaign gives us all confidence that he will prioritize these same issues as President. I'm talking about things like:

_Raising the minimum wage which currently disproportionately disadvantages hard-working women

_Guaranteeing every American quality health care with a program that does not wait but addresses this stress on American families now so that every woman, every child gets the medical attention she needs

_Making college more affordable and helping Americans save which dramatically affects the bottom line in many women's lives

_And women, like all Americans, desire to create a better world for our families by supporting the troops and ending the war in Iraq, taking a better, long-term approach to defusing radical extremism that fuels terrorism, and by stopping global warming so that the current alarming trends do not become an environmental free-fall that our children will not be able to halt.

Getting this election right is so important to women. Can you use this as an opportunity to reach out and find one woman you know who shares these values and ask her to join us? Can you find one woman who is not involved, help her register to vote and talk to her about John's campaign—a campaign dedicated to improving her life?

I'm glad that we're in this together.

Sincerely,

--Elizabeth Edwards

20. It's a smart move for Edwards...
Hillary has also been reaching out to women (a natural in that respect of course). This is a great way to utilize Elizabeth's considerable talents!
