Sen. Maria Cantwell selling out high-tech workers -co-sponsor of infinite H-1B bill

A new U.S. Senate proposal would allow limitless H-1B visas and green cards for foreigners with master's degrees or higher in any field from an American university--or anyone with such credentials in the science, technology, engineering or math fields from abroad.

Like other competing proposals in Congress right now, the "Skilled Worker Immigration and Fairness Act," introduced on Tuesday by Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), also proposes raising the existing annual cap on the controversial H-1B visas from 65,000 to 115,000 for fiscal year 2007. That number could climb by 20 percent in each subsequent year, to as high as 180,000, if the previous year's quota was exhausted.

Cantwell is a co-sponsor of the bill.

1. The Lieberman-Hagel Bill is Bill Gates' dream bill--that's why
Cantwell supports it--he's in her state.

3. Well, Lieberman co-introduced it--what's his reasoning? I thought
he was supposed to be fairly "progressive" except for the war.

4. Lieberman was never progressive
He's supported every Free Trade deal that has come up. He has no problems selling out working Americans because he gets his contributions from corporate interests.

7. Its Mind Boggling ...

Durbin has put forth a bill that would make it illegal for a US company to create positions that would be RESERVED for h1b's (they would first have to post the job for 30 days to americans) but there is no guarantee in the language that the applying american would ever actually receive consideration, only that the h1b hiring would be delayed for 30 days ... pathetic sell outs, these types

* On a bright note I think the Durbin bill will end the humiliating requirement on Americans to train their Indian replacements ... technology transfer run amuck ... curses upon thee corporate slime

8. Since when has a Centrist Democrat represented their
Consituents. If a choice is to be made between Business Interest
and Consituent's Interest--Take it to the bank. The Centrist
witll go with Business. Just watch the Senate and you will see.

The Trade Bill is the Same. When the Business groups praise
the trade bill just passed--the consituents were thrown overboard.

It is predicted that there ar 45 million job dislocations looming
and our Senators just passed legislation to help it along.

The "Free-Traders" will say it is because of Technology. Bah, Humbug.
Trade Policy(Globalization) plays a big role.
