Live Earth? It's a waste of time, Geldof tells Gore
By Cahal Milmo
Published: 16 May 2007
He may have made the definitive film on climate change and come within a hanging chad of becoming the most world's most powerful man but Al Gore's status did little to protect him from another force of nature - Bob Geldof.

The unloved former US vice-president, turned unlikely hero of the environmental lobby, found himself the target of withering criticism yesterday from the singer-campaigner for copying his "Live Aid" format for a series of concerts to raise awareness of global warming.

Geldof, who invented the simultaneous global charity gig with Live Aid in 1985, accused Gore of doing little more than organising a worldwide musical extravaganza to state the obvious when Live Earth - a series of seven concerts across the world spanning 24 hours - takes place on 7 July.

1. Geldof is pouting and thus doing the work of the RW for them
Geldof wasn't approached and is now sulking.

4. i bet if Gore called "Sir Bob" and asked him for advice "Sir Bob" would be singing
the praises of this concert. Bitter, doesn't look good on you Bob, just sayin.

Geldof is an idiot.

7. I guess Sir Bob, a former Knight of the Boomtown Rats
doesn't like Wednesdays or Saturdays much either.

No seriously, I can understand his profound disillusionment after the G8.

Still he thinks Live Earth will only amplify collective angst, but angst may just lead to action over time.

No one can deny that without getting the attention of the corporate powers that be little will change quickly.

The coverage was horrendous and having to watch on line, was waiting for the long awaited and seemingly impossible Floyd reunion and Mariah Carey was performing first . If you could call it that.

The BEST thing was hopping on DU during her performance to kill some time and seeing some funny poster make a query (paraphrasing) . . ."Why the heck doesn't David Gillmore just come on stage and impale her with the neck of his guitar. . .?"

What a ridiculous contrast that was. A concert to alleviate debt and starvation in third world countries coupled with the suggestion of the impalement of a pop diva by an aging rock star.

Gee and we sit wondering why DU has such a quirky reputation. . . ?

I confess I did crack up over that image and stark contrast though.
