As Hal Daub became the latest Nebraska Republican to test the waters for a possible U.S. Senate bid, the pressure may mount on incumbent Sen. Chuck Hagel to make a decision about his future.

Several Republicans said Tuesday that they hope Hagel decides soon about whether he will run for re-election, seek the presidency or bow out of public life.

"He needs to say whether he's in or out," said Mike Kennedy, a Republican and Millard school board member.

Hagel has said he will make a decision sometime this year.

But some Republicans, including Daub and Attorney General Jon Bruning, are champing at the bit to get out on the campaign trail.

Daub said Tuesday he would mount a 93-county "listening tour" of Nebraska and begin raising money for a possible campaign for Hagel's seat.

2. Well, the natives are getting restless. Chuck, just admit you're running
for President, before they come after you with pitchforks (hey, it's Nebraska, they really do have pitchforks!). Daub has no chance--he already lost to Fahey. He's already 65--who goes to the Senate at age 67?
