A sex scandal is the oldest trick in the book
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 11:30 AM by devrc243
in politics. Why? Cause it appeals to the very thing most of us can relate to--something personal. I would suspect that most people have been affected by an "affair" or "jilt" whether it be direct or indirect. It is so easy to "sensationalize" it and people FEED off of it.

The RW loves to use this trick to discredit a candidate because they are the only "moral" ones--or so they think. Pull out their dirty laundry bag and we get a repentence so dramatic, aka: Jimmy Swaggert's crying scene.

They use it over and over and over...I'm really not surprised by this latest story with Kerry's "alleged" affair. Actually as good-looking as Edwards is, I thought he would be first. So, it really was just a matter of time. Feeding it doesn't help our party to win in November.

Poor Rove, nobody would ever believe he had an affair, he's just too damn ugly.

1. I always think Edwards should be the on-the-scene reporter.
I'm probably gonna get my butt kicked on here for this and it is off topic but...
I can't help it! Edwards looks like the sterotypical Mr. Nightly Newscaster guy.
"This just in, I want to be president"

:)

Sorry.

2. Ignoring it doesn't help us to win in November, either.
If it's true, we need to know about it NOW, while we can still select a nominee who doesn't have this in his past.

3. Their constant yelping

" . . . about a free press means, with a few honorable exceptions, freedom to peddle scandal, crime, sex, sensationalism, hate, innuendo and the political and financial uses of propaganda. A newspaper is a business out to make money through advertising revenue. That is predicated on the circulation and you know what circulation depends on."

Raymond Chandler (1888–1959), U.S. author. Harlan Potter, in The Long Goodbye, ch. 32 (1954).

I dont think it has so much to do with people who have been affected by an affair so much as people seeing marriage as a commitment and promise to someone you love. therefor if you betray that trust with someone you supposedly love , how would you treat the entire country full of people you've never met.
thats my theory on why people make it a big deal atleast. that and a side of religious craziness im sure ;)
Tho im sure people being influenced by family members whove had affairs plays a mix in it too. its pretty rampet these days after all.

lol, yeah, i dont think any one would ever believe Rove had an affair ;)

7. No doubt if Edwards were the frontrunner, they'd start a rumor
about him. If he's on the ticket at all, they'll be all over that. Not to sound corny, but the guy IS a political heart throb.
