Clinton won't commit on Iraq deadline
Denies sending mixed signals on U.S. troop withdrawal

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton voted Wednesday to advance legislation cutting off money for the Iraq war, then refused to pledge to support the measure if it came to a vote, then said she would.

At lunchtime, the New York senator and presidential candidate was asked repeatedly by reporters whether she favored the troop withdrawal legislation that had just come up for a procedural vote on the Senate floor.

Her answer: "I'm not going to speculate on what I'm going to be voting on in the future. I voted in favor of cloture to have a debate

10. She is not a leader. She wants to see the focus group results before the next vote
But, hey, she does have a magical last name!

4. This is what causes her problems with Democrats.
She won't commit, make a decision, and STICK TO IT!

And frankly, I'm FED UP with politicians who are so busy being politicians that they AREN'T DOING THEIR JOB.

The American people want the war to end.

The war is based on LIES from Bush/GOP.

Troops are dying every single day that we wait to make a decision.

It's costing the American taxpayers millions every single day. (Said taxpayers are doing without medical care, and can't afford prescription drugs.)

Hillary, stop being a lousy politician and DO THE RIGHT THING. TAKE A STAND. Get the troops out of Iraq. It shouldn't matter whether it's politically expedient for you to do so, it is the right thing to do and you will be doing your job, REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE.

7. John Edwards admitted that pulling the troops out now....
could cause genocide between the Sunnis and Shites. This is a huge problem and I don't think it's as easy as giving a date to withdraw the troops. I want the war to end as much as anyone but can we just leave Iraq in the mess it's in now. The big problem is how do we clean up the mess Bush has caused.

9. All of the experts seem to believe the solution in Iraq is a political one,
not a military one. So, yes I think a date should be set with the intent of putting pressure on the Iraqi government to get their sh!t together and fix their problems.

I don't think our troops should just be yanked out within a week or two, but we need to start managing their redeployment home, instead of keeping all options open indefinitely. The Iraqi government needs to know there's a deadline looming ahead for them. I'm pretty sure they don't want to try this on their own without our help, so they need to cancel their planned two month vacation, and get to work.

Giving them a date when we start pulling out is a good way to put them on notice that they no longer have the luxury of time to fix their problems.

11. Nice thought but not so easy as it sounds....
deadlines in anything come and go, sometimes you meet the deadline, sometimes not. What happens if there is a specific date and nothing is solved. What do you do then. Pull out, extend the deadline. The Iraqi government has to fix problems the Bush invasion created, which in reality is a civil war. If we pull out our troops will the factions stop fighting, I doubt it. I would love any of the candidates or our congress to say "withdraw the troops tomorrow" but can that be done. We cannot leave that country in the mess we created without some solution. Should we withdraw our troops and have them in Kuwait and other areas, as Edwards has suggested, would that be a solution. I'm not sure it would.

Is it any wonder that she is the DLC's love child?

8. I told myself I was going to watch each of the candidates who have voted for Bush
Edited on Thu May-17-07 11:51 AM by higher class
in all things Iraq. I told myself that if the DLC pulls another coup on Democrats and announces their selection in spite of us and if there was no way to support an independent and not make it a vote for Republicans, I would have to review my research and measure how depressed I was going to be.

Well, Candidate Clinton may never dig herself out of the hole she keeps placing herself in.

And if she doesn't come out of the hole on her own, I'm going to keep compiling my list of people who support her to reevaluate my opinions of them - like Spitzer.

12. She just voted FOR a bill to set a deadline, though.
Something about wanting to send a clear message... I guess the CLEAR message is "I want to be on both sides of this issue".
